I received a letter about a company wanting to do a seismec test on my property, they are wanting to pay me $5 an acre, I have no interest in doing this at this time. They have a Seismec Survey Permit number and a site Phase name on the letter. Can I refuse to let them do this test or not? I am in a current lease that expires in a few months and dont want to renew with this company so I dont want to do anything before then.

Yes, it doesnt mention the companies name and why would they offer to pay if its already in the current lease?

The availability of seismic data reduces uncertainty for the O & G Operators; and as such can increase interest in a property (and can increase the amount that a landowner can receive).

It is a potential nuisance, and the compensation is minimal - but, it can pay dividends in higher bonus and getting in a production unit much quicker than otherwise.

They will likely first drill where they feel most comfortable; they are most comfortable where they have the most data available.

Jack: Could you explain seismic testing? I know there is seismic testing where they slowly roll 4 or 5 trucl-like strange looking vehicles along a road. Then there is this other procedure where they ask to come on your  land to drill some small holes which they put an explosive in??  Could you tell me for example what spacing they use? I guess  for example, if I had some neighbors and we owned contiguous properties totalling 1200-1500 acres consisting of multiple parcels from 80 to 350 acres, would they need to do these explosive seismic tests on everyone's property? I know that my question may not seem clear, because I'm not clear how it works? For example do they need to drill one hole every so many acres to get what they need to know or what? If so, how many acres per necessary hole is the standard, or does it depend on the geology, where they might drill a hole, get some data, and use that data to determine how far away the next hole had to be placed? If by chance this process has been described elsewhere on this website, would you please direct me to the thread?. Obviously, I am totally ignorant of how this process works. Any help you may provide will be appreciated. I follow your posts, and therefore realize you have more technical  knowledge about O&G drilling than 99% of the people who post to the sight. Thank you in advance for such help as you may be able to provide.
