I inherited 97 acres in Tyler County in 2011, I think I have interest in the Stewart #1 well. I receive a small royalty payment monthly from EQT. I've been offered $4000 an acre to purchase the mineral rights. But I have no idea if this is good idea or not. Sell or Not??? I don't know if I own 100% interest in the mineral rights or if it is split with other people. My mom's records aren't good. Any suggestions what to do? Or how I find out more information. I don't live in West Virginia.

Contact EQT to ask what they have on your ownership.
Somebody posted this information on Tyler County
Go to link http://tylercountywv.com/,
Scroll down to Tyler County Web Base Tax and Document Inquiry, click this link just under it: http://129.71.117.165/
At the next screen is 'Document Inquiry' and 'Tax Inquiry'. Choose 'Document Imaging' tab this time. Names searches are always done last name first, no commas. As in Smith John. Put in owner's last and first name in the appropriate boxes.
Next you'll get a listing of items under that person's name and whether it's a lease, deed, etc. Click "View" on the far left and that will take you to a copy of the document that you can print.

Here is more info from another source for the older records. Somewhat complicated. Ask if you have questions.
The Tyler County website is tricky. If you want deeds before the mid ninety's, you need to install a separate app on your desktop. Basically after the page loads and you click on document image button, you go to far right and right click on the button farthest right that says right click (there may be two). You then left click " remove this application". When that is finished you right click again on the button which has a new name..."Book/Page" and you have the option to install "WEB book and Page application onto this computer". This will install a link on your desktop which you can then use to find older deeds......
This searching information can be used to find the lease that your ancestor signed, and if lucky the original deeds. Best to go to the courthouse but that is not always possible.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
