Yesterday in Marietta, Ohio this marketing campaign publicly kicked off with 800 people in attendance at the Peoples Bank Colony Theater.   Yes, it is a branded marketing campaign designed to bring jobs to the mid Ohio Valley based on the abundance of shale  gas.   Lots of people working together on this effort that is going to be based in Marietta.

From the info distributed the focus is on the abundant availability of natural gas,  the transportation capacity of the Ohio River and bringing high paying jobs blue collar jobs to the area.   Seniors at Marietta College have identified 200 companies world wide that use natural gas in their manufacturing processes.

Counties particularly identified in this marketing campaign include:

Ohio, Marshall, Wetzel, Tyler, Pleasants, Wood, Jackson and Mason in West Virginia

In Ohio it is Jefferson, Belmont, Monroe, Washington, Meigs, and Gallia.

Until I read the Marietta Times this morning I was unaware of the involvement of the state Geological Surveys and the US Energy Lab,

Lots of info online at www.shalecrescentusa.com

This appears to well very well put together, with lots of buy in and cooperation.   And for all those on this site who think nothing much is happening in the oil and gas industry at the moment,   it is the lull before it all comes into place where the organizing and planning takes place.   The brand SHALE CRESCENT is obviously designed to instantly be recognized nationally and world wide.

Lots of media carrying the story this morning.   Wall Street journal had an article yesterday, but did not use the term Shale Crescent.

Although I am far removed from your area, I aim to do everything I can to assist you folks in realizing the bounty that lies beneath your feet,

Decades ago I was involved in oil exploration and personally witnessed the dramatic transformation in areas that had discoveries of hydrocarbons and the follow on economic boost for the areas' people.

The little towns of Tioga and Williston, North Dakota, are welcoming students into brand new school facilities this coming fall.

The farmers and ranchers who benefit from signing bonuses and ongoing royalties have reaped enormous sums due to hydrocarbon extraction from the Bakken, Niobrara, Eagle Ford and the emerging plays in Oklahoma.

With your infrastructure, work force, oil/gas history, you folks MUST seize this opportunity and not fall prey to the incessant, unceasing efforts of the acolytes of Ra and Zephyr.

They will come gunning for you.

I hope to use the looming energy crisis in New England as a 'teaching moment' for anyone who wilfully shuns the countless benefits that abundant, inexpensive energy can bring.

Go for it!!

Thanks Coffeeguyzz for commenting on this post.   As  a landowner I attended this presentation and was impressed with the top quality branding of the region and its resources as well as the length of time working on this project.   And the players involved, some very good Marietta people of all ages.   Amazing to me is the involvement of the four state geological surveys and the Dept of Energy Technology Laboratory.

Amazing fact I found in their online site that the Ohio River can handle twice as much barge traffic as it is handling currently.  Also the amount of detail available on the various already existing industrial parks, for instance Center Point Terminal, to the locals that is the old Ormet site.

However, I think the average citizen is not seeing that all of this will come to pass and I fear many will not be preparing themselves for the advantages it will bring.   More well paying jobs to me says people have to prepare for those jobs with skills and oh, yes, time for some people to get drug free and stay that way to take part in better paying jobs.

And, yes, it will be interesting to meet the  new and different folks who come through our area.

And my last comment I do not think that many people realize just how visible on the radar our three state region and its resources is.

Thanks again Coffeeguyzz and I hope you will continue to comment on Shale Crescent.

" ... visible on the radar ..."

Exactly so, especially for the people up there who wake up to the same surroundings each day, go to the routine coffee shops/stores etc.
Picture Saudi, Kuwait, only with nat gas.
Few months back, much hoopla over Eni's discovery of 30 Tcf natgas in the eastern Mediterranean.
According to Wrightstone Energy, the Upper Devonian formations alone contain 100 Tcf recoverable - triple Enu's find and no one hardly ever hears of it.
Terry Pegula's JKLM just brought online the first Utica well in Potter county ... near 1 Bcf first 84 days production. Stunning.
The shallower Clinton Limestone is enabling smaller operators to economically drill 1,400' laterals in Ohio.

Biggest influence on the horizon? The ongoing transformation of natgas to be a primary transportation fuel rather than refined oil.
At a 6 to 1 energy ratio, oil should sell for $18 per barrel ... or natgas for $8 mmbtu.
The arbitrage in cost/energy will continue to prompt the switch to natgas (well underway in the commercial arena as outlets proliferate for fueling and manufacturers ramp up products.

Sitting here laughing about what we in the Buckeye State call the 3-C's. . .Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland and those of us living elsewhere in Ohio feel as if the 3-C's have the inside track.

But now the fourth C is here and perhaps the "Crescent" will have as much or more influence than the 3-C's.    Proud to be livin' in the Crescent!
