Is it possible to have side by side well pads for different formations?

My wife has  the Allen well in Jackson Twp. Tioga County on her property. (Marcellus)

If there was interest in drilling the Utica could a well pad dedicated to that formation be placed alongside the current one?, or does the DEP not allow?

You can drill different formations off of the same pad... however, there are other factors into how close well pads can be than formations.

In Ohio they drill off the same pad.  Bucey by Chesapeake in Carroll County and others I believe.  You can check out the Marcellus and Utica wells on the same pad at oilandgas.ohiodnr.gov  Click on Shale Activity over on the right ... bottom box.  Then you will see four different reports ... weekly permits for Marcellus and Utica ... and below that cumulative reports.   If you check out Bucey on Marcellus and Utica you will see the long and lat are the same for the start or roughly the same.  Check out the Marcellus (there are a lot fewer of these) first then go to Utica and see which ones are the same.

Thanks for your replies. Currently there is only one Marcellus bore with possibly five more?

I do realize that different formations can be drilled on the same pad but the hardware would not fit

for all the potential well bores so they could put another pad beside this one or expand the current one if it was permitted. The landowner would allow it.

I have seen well pads twice as large as the current one right down the road (Shell).

This one was drilled by East Resources but now owned by Shell.
