We are just south of you in Venango Township, Butler County with the same situation.

looks like leasing has dried up in Venango / Butler Co. with Shell - maybe they've finally figured out that there is nothing but "dry" gas in either of those 2 counties from the Utica, and any "wet" gas from the Marcellus is only found at the extreme western portion of those counties as well.

Also have property in Venango County, Clinton Township, 5min south of I-80 off of Bailey Rd.

Had a 'lease' with SHELL...they issued a bank 'draft' document...waited 90+days ...and...alas....on the 88th day they returned the 'draft' suggesting 'reprioritization' as the reason for non-payment of the draft.

Jason Hannath is the person I was dealing with...from a company by the name of SWEPI...middlemen for SHELL.

What is disturbing is that the ability to communicate with anyone through the process is non-existent.

And of course, due to the 'language' in the lease, any of these companies have you hanging on with just a prayer...for months (if not longer) just 'hoping'. There seem to be no guarantees, no obligation, no courtesy....and no communication whatsoever.

Yeah...I'm a little upset, but you know what...I just wish they would have communicated sooner instead of making us wait so long...hoping that it would go through.

Sorry for the rant.

I have the same question I guess...is leasing in this area dead ? Is it even a viable or promising area ?

I do know that things appear to be stalled in general.

Any suggestions or comments welcome. With my kids about to go to college, I'm looking for anything that is a possibility for generating some income.

Kevin,

I was dealing with Jason also.  I have spoken to him a few times this summer and he said Shell is not giving them any insight as to what their plans are in Venago.  I like you had already mentally put the money to use and am very disappointed.

Thanks. Sorry for sounding like such a crybaby, but I just had to get it off my chest. I about lost my mind when my bank called and told me ... even though I had suspicions that it would go down that way.

It's not like I'm irresponsible. It took a lot of work to get to the point of having a lease put in front of me. I do think it irresponsible on 'their' part to hold people hostage mentally for so long.

I guess I'm just looking for an alternative or other options.

Shell and SWEPI are the same company.  SWEPI is short for "Shell Western Exploration and Production, Inc."  If you're looking for generating some income, I'd try McDonalds or Walmart.

 I think Shell will be back leasing in Venango & Butler Counties in due time, just have to be patient.

Thanks for the information and suggestions.

I'll run down to Walmart in the morning and see if they have a way to generate some income.

If they don't, then I'll go over to McDonalds.

Both are great, constructive, helpful ideas !!
