I reside in Cranberry Township, Venango County, PA.  We are clearly in the "Wet Gas."  This wet/gas line has been modified from original assumptions   I believe it has moved east due to the recent drilling and testing throughout the county and the bordering counties. This should make it very profitable and easier to transport.

It looks like the Marcellus gas is between 4,000 and 5,000 feet deep in Venango County. This map also shows Cranberry Township, Venango County to be west of the line, clearly in "WET GAS."

That wet/dry line is for the Marcellus.  The bad news is that the Marcellus is very thin in Venango and not as profitable to produce. The big question the location of the wet/dry line for the Utica. Hoping that it too is east of Venango but that has yet to be proven.

to  agree with jim

it is a marcellus the problem is the depth and crevice fractured geography(not a meteor thats a classic) utica probable in pockets and depths possibly over matured (burnt=tar too heavy to pump)  point pleasant plentiful =reaction no pp wells to prove viability of geology.

range screwed the pooch in dempseytown =hit the medina too much h20 .spent more on water trucking due to well operator error (ironically did not listen to a  aged and infirmed well seasoned local operator) .. someone had to punch it and learn and it cost them. However between range and sylvan s holdings they still hold a position in the play

Venango is rich in oil and wet gas

2 issues

1 unproven and undeveloped geology says its there   burp a dinosaur where?

2 NO INFRASTRUCTURE

its oil and they do not know what where and how to get it

OR HOW TO GET IT TO MARKET

Jim Litwinowicz is correct. Some months ago I researched the consensus wet gas/dry gas dividing lines for both the Marcellus and Utica Shales. The Marcellus wet gas / dry gas line is delineated on the map you have posted. The consensus wet gas / dry gas dividing line for the Utica is considerably to the west. Unfortunately my property in western Venango County may well be  dry gas so far as the Utica Shale. Maps of the Utica appear to show my property as being possibly wet and possibly dry. Range has several permits for property slightly north and slightly east of my property. If those wells are drilled and produce wet gas, then I likely will have wet gas.( I am clearly in the wet gas area of the Marcellus but the Marcellus in western Venango County may not be commercially viable because it is of insufficient thickness.) I hope my comments are helpful. I guess I  have just said much the same thing as Jim Litwinowicz. It is unfortunate that the newspapers and other media report stories where they say Marcellus when they mean Utica and vice versa. This is unfortunate but it occurs all too often and spreads confusion.

Jack, Can you post or re-post the map of wells and well permits to date in Venango on this blog?  I am hearing rumors of a meeting among competitors to share info on drilling in Venango.  Fang, you nailed it, good post.

National Fuel utica well in Red Brush, Forest County east of Venango, Wet/Dry, anyone know?

National Fuel installing stripper plant at this well, to the east of Venango. WHY WOULD THEY BE DOING THIS FOR DRY GAS????    Cheveron also leasing in this area....

Fang, Any thoughts on this?

Compression station and stripper plant would imply wet gas, correct?  The location of the well in Forest County, to the east of Venango would likely indicate that Venango utica is wet also?  Your thoughts?

Check out this attachment.  It is a map of Venango County showing O & G Deep Well Sites with operators.

Jack, is this a map that you made?  I'm curious about the shell lease area, I remember when they signed some folks in Cranberry Twp awhile back, I didn't realize they had paid on so many of the leases.  Your map says "Shell proposed deep well," is there evidence that Shell intends to drill in that Meadow Church/Hill City area?  We have some property adjacent to the leased land, I'd love to hear what's going on in that area.  Thanks.
