Well with NE and SW laterals, Monroe Co Adams Twp

Just noticed on ODNR map that there is a new well to be drilled, with laterals oposite direction of the normal.  Look in Monroe Co, Adams Twp , section 30.  Sawyer well.

The plats show NW SE which is normal

Story is they are pulling out of the Sawyer well.  All dry gas, say they might be back in 2017.

This is the first I've heard of this here.  I don't think any fracking occurred.  Suspect they tied up several acres.

check the plat again.  North is to the right on it.  The laterals go SW to NE.

Don't know if it actually got drilled, but the laterals are not the direction of all the other wells.   Also, the laterals are very short.

These are not production wells. They are just stratigraphic tests (pilot holes). If you look they are targeting the Trenton formation. Usually operators drill straight down, but it looks like Eclipse is going to drill on a slant down into the Trenton. Then they will use logging tools on the well. They will then plug it and abandon. Usually an operator will drill a stratigraphic test off a horizontal well. These are not planned or permitted to be producing laterals.

Geology... rock properties, depth and thickness of each formation. The logging tools can be 60-90 feet long with all the different tools. To ensure that they are able to log the entire formation they will drill deeper than what they actually want to log. In this case that means they drilled into the Trenton because they want to log the entire Pt. Pleasant formation. It is a common practice to log wildcat wells or if the operator is in an area where they would like more information on the rock formations.

I've looked all over ODNR maps and have not seen any others like this, so not sure how common it is.  anyone else seen one?

Confirmed  the Sawyer well did not even get a rig on site.  Eclipse going to Guernsey Co., say they will be back maybe in 2016 or 2017.  Maybe need to tie up some Oxford leases they acquired?

Two laterals were permitted on 12/15 per the DNR permitting site and are now showing on the DNR Oil & Gas map viewer - the laterals run SE.
