What is an Offset Well?

Consol Energy just released an operations update and called a well in our area an "offset" well to a neighboring well. What does that mean? Internet research provides pretty vague info. We know the original well has produced oil and ngls. Thanks.

Brian,will a 3D seismic show if an area is wet gas,,  dry gas or oil or would it primarily show strata ?If not is there any further testing from the suface without drilling that would reveal this data? Thank You
