Hi, again!  I no longer live in SE Ohio, but own mineral rights there.  We are pretty sure that we own mineral rights left by my dad's family and are having that checked by an attorney.  Can anyone tell me what the next best steps would be?  Do we have to join an landowner's group?  I was also wondering how long it is typically from where my family is in this process if the deed is clear, to an actual signing.  Anyone having experience with that, I would welcome some feedback....

Contact the O@G company that is leasing in the area of the property. 

If they are interested, they will start negoitations; check with the neighbors,

if you are still in contact with any, look at their leases, and I would say contact

an O@G attorney, or a friend or neighbor who has signed a lease and has done his

homework.

Once you sign, the O@G company does an extensive title search.  You are paying extra

money for an attorney to check for the status of the mineral rights/oil and gas rights.

 

If you take the time to look over this web site you will find a ton of answers. It could be years before they may want to lease the property depending upon where you are located. Try to look at  The State of Ohio Ohio then in the County of where your property is at, then learn! 

You could try to contact the current surface owners and ask if any offers have been made to them or their neighbors.  The extra expense of having your attorney run title is unnessessary.  All OG Co's will have their own people run title, once they have a signed OGL.  If you have significate OGM....they will eventually find you, if they are interested in your area.  As posted earlier, you can go to your state/county here and look for activity in your area,too.
