Where are the drilling rigs in Pennsylvania?

Where are the drilling rigs?  Were we not supposed to see more drilling activity starting this year?  Is supply glutted now?  Has demand not increased as forecast?  Are pipelines operating at peak capacity?  Is it solely a matter of needing more pipelines?  With local upcoming AI & natural gas electricity generation facilities it seems that regional pipelines will be adequate.

Are gas companies choosing to operate solely in maintenance mode now?  Drill new wells only as needed to maintain production levels.  Given that a new pad with new wells may take two years to create,  does it not it seem that now is the time to add more wells?

From a distance it sure has appeared that Tioga County has become the hot spot for drilling in the northeastern side of PA. let`s hope this continues. Are these Marcellus or Utica wells being drilled?

Just wondering, recently the CEO for Huntley & Huntley mentioned that gas companies might pursue Utica, as well as, Marcellus gas in lower EUR areas leading into NE PA as Tier 1 areas decline in Westmoreland County.

So how will this impact the coverage area where they drill?  Will they go further to the east or west to expand?  Any targeted gas companies in their sights?  It`s great to see gas companies with the vision & energy to grow.

from Marcellus Drilling News this week

Pennsylvania issued 23 new permits last week, up from 19 the previous week. Ohio issued 11 permits, a slight decrease from 13 two weeks ago. And West Virginia issued 5 new permits, the same number as two weeks ago. Just, wow!

CNX looks to be in maintenance mode, and it appears they aren't interested at this time in further defining their Utica acreage, instead focusing on reducing well cost.  In fact, they sold the Marcellus rights in their Ohio Utica acreage (they drilled a few Marcellus wells a while back, with marginal success).

What are they waiting for?  It takes time to prepare a new well pad for wells.

Just to clarify, they are drilling new wells:

"As expected, the company had limited capital activity during the third quarter with no
new wells frac’d or turned-in-line. Our drilling activity during the quarter was focused
on a four-well deep Utica pad as we continue to advance our industry-leading deep
Utica expertise. As a result of this reduced activity set, capital expenditures and
production volumes declined compared to the second quarter.
We resumed frac activities early in the fourth quarter, and we expect to bring on-line
seven wells late in the fourth quarter, including three additional deep Utica wells"

However, due to the nature of their Utica wells, and the APEX acquisition, they don't need that much activity to maintain production.

The general mood is to hold production relatively flat and see what happens with the weather and the economy.  I guess they figure the Apex Acquisition is enough for now.

Here is the threat regarding the acquisitions

David Deckelbaum: Appreciate that. And my follow-up is just, obviously, you guys closed a couple of deals this quarter. It seems like the basin in general that there’s been a lot more land spend through all your peers right now. I guess, is there — can you just generally speak to that environment right now? Are we just seeing a lot more horse trading or folks kind of willing to transact on single zone areas? It seems like we should be underwriting perhaps a larger land spend in the ’26 time frame and perhaps beyond as maybe these opportunities are increasing.

Alan Shepard: Yes. So maybe I’m not going to speak to the activities of some of the peers that happened down in West Virginia and Ohio. But definitely in Central PA, where we’re focused on sort of the deep Utica development in the long term, you see more interest as folks start to understand the sort of potential of the reservoir, some of the transactions we’ve seen up there. You kind of have a moment in time here where there’s an opportunity to pick up some of the acreage that still may be open or held by folks that are looking to deal with it to some of the more consolidated players in the area.
