This just in from Julie Archer of WVCAG. "Delegates Barbara Fleischauer, Mike Manypenny and others holding a press conference tomorrow to call for a halt to issuance of new permits until the legislature can come up with and pass a responsible and effective bill regulating Marcellus Shale drilling. The press conference will be at 1PM tomorrow (Friday, March 18) in the House Government Organization Committee Room (215-E) at the State Capitol in Charleston. For those who can easily get to Charleston, please come and show your support."

Wow, thank you, Dee for this information.

Though I don't believe a moratorium is necessarily the thing to do right now - it should at least serve to get the Legislators "clued in " to the seriousness of this issue. If their O&G Industry gets shut down until some regulatory , monitoring and people/environmental protective laws can be passed - it might make them take some conprehensive action.

Right now, they are suffering no consequence for their negligence.  ...but shut the industry down, and the howling will begin....

Kudo's to Delegates Fleischauer, Manypenny and all others who are at least trying to serve and protect your constituants and state. Many thanks for your efforts.

Sincerely,

Kit McGlinchey

You know, I may have misled with the headline.  I regret that.  The delegates are calling for a Hold on Issuance of New Permits.  Even if this is implemented, this will not shut the industry down.
No, it wouldn't, as there are many active and "to be drilled" wells already permitted - but it will cause a stir that might get them out of their "coma's" and "stupor"...
