I'm not a expert on this subject but I am almost certain that drilling in previously mined area's is something that can be done. The reason for this is Marshall and Ohio counties in WV have been mined under for years and drilling is going on all over these previously mined area's. I would not put it past a land man or lessor to say it devalues your mineral rights. On the other side of that, if you still have unmined coal under your land that is leased to a coal producer drilling potential would be less likely. From what I have heard/read, previous leased coal has presidence over newly leased oil/gas. As far as your concern over who is interested in what, take every word with a grain of salt. The truth seems to illuded alot of the player's in this circus.
