I signed a lease with great river on December 9, 2013. According to Belmont county website they took lease rights on February 2, 2014 and I still have not received payment (supposed to be 120 day lease). Has anyone received their payment from Great River? I haves called them everyday for 30 straight days and they haven't returned a phone call. Does anyone have different numbers or any other Contact information for Great River?

Charlie,

Unfortunately, this scenario has been playing itself out in many counties in Ohio.

First and foremost, you may want to speak to an attorney, and take him a copy of your Lease.

From a Non-Attorney standpoint, there may be a provision which has been found in many Great Rivers Leases, which says they only have to pay within 30 days of recieving written notice of their failure to pay. The written notice being sent to the address as specified in the Lease.

This is a game which Great Rivers has played many times, and they will then pay a portion (the portion required by the Lease), all, or none of the Bonus as promised. You may have to request in writing that Great Rivers releases your Lease in record at the Courthouse in order to make them do anything.

It is sad, and makes all of the Oil & Gas Companies/Leasing Companies look bad. Landowners need educated on these tricks. They also need to learn what Pugh Clauses do to protect them.

If I can be of any further help, please let me know.

Thanks,

Dan
