Don't worry, they need every inch of your county.
Smith-Goshen Landowners Group is still accepting landowners as far as I know. There is a meeting tonight at Union Local Middle School at 6:00.
Be sure to bring your parcel numbers if you wish to add your acreage to the group.
Parcel numbers are how the county identifies your land for tax purposes and can be found in two places.
1) On your real-estate tax bill
2) On the Belmont County Auditor Website . This is probably the easiest place to find them. Click on "Real Estate Online" over to the right side of the screen. Next click on "Start your search..." Next enter the owner's name.
As far as deciding about leasing goes, it is inevitable that drilling IS coming to Belmont. You will have to deal with the noise, the dust, the trucks, for years to come. You might as well profit from it. If you join a good landowner group (like Smith-Goshen) and get a landowner-friendly lease that protects your interests, it will make the nuisance side of the business a bit more tolerable. If you do go to the meeting tonight, try to show up early to register. A large crowd is expected.
Thanks Finnbear. I was hoping you would jump in.
I have not been here much recently. I am involved with another landowner group in NE Ohio where I live and it has kept me very busy lately.
HEY - looks who is here! lol...
You're welcome. You will find your parcel numbers on your property tax bill. You are doing exactly what I have done to learn about this leasing business. Follow these blogs. They are most helpful and can guide you to news and info. Use google searches to learn both about fracking and leasing. The internet is a great tool...Good luck and I hope to see you tonight.
The Smith-Goshen group has been having a meeting about once a month since they started back in January. At each meeting, the group was given an update by the committee on the progress they were making. At many of the meetings, an expert was brought in to speak to the group in an educational capacity. Some of the people who came to educate the group have been, an oil & gas expert from ODNR, a retired oil and gas company geologist, a tax planner, a geologist from Marietta college, an attorney who specializes in estate planning, investment advisors, someone who knows about coal mining in Belmont county, etc. Each of these meetings brought the members up to speed on the group's progress but also taught those willing to listen some things that they should know about the oil and gas business and also things would need to know down the road after they have a lease signed. Many involved in this will collect a 6-figure plus lease bonus check and it will probably be the largest single piece of income they collect in their whole life. The tax planning, estate planning, and investment advise are crucial to making the oil and gas income benefit you for a lifetime and not just the next couple of years. You don't want to end up like so many lottery winners who end up flat broke 5 years later.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
