I have tried to obtain information on the meter that records the production of gas out of the wells.  Does it come under the Bureau of Weights and Measures?  I was told that no one checks it for accuracy.  I also have concerns that the only meter reading is from the Gas Company.  I was told by a Land Agent that they use a independent firm to take the readings.  I asked her why can't the land owner get a copy at the same time as the gas company.  At least you could compare the two numbers when you receive the statement.

If anyone has information on this practice I would appreciate the update.

I once addressed a similar issue (how could we be sure that the oil company is adhering to the contract) with the Range Resources landman. His response was, "You're welcome to conduct an audit at anytime!"

Good line, I'll have to remember that!

I ran into the Gov at a brand new Veterans Rehab center this spring.  I was standing 4 feet from him with 4 or 5 of his guys out of Harrisburg.  So I strike up a conversation with them and after thanking them for taking care of the Vets, I said "well all you need to do now is tighten up on the gas companies".  I said if I buy a gallon of gas, the meter is certified by weights and measures, if I buy a pound of boiled ham, same thing!  Millions of dollars coming out of a pipe and no body is paying attention..........

and you think that is an accident?
