I noticed in Sunday's paper that now it looks as though Stark County is the new sweet spot for the Utica shale.  Great news for the landowners in Stark.  Any comments?

I have always wondered if Stark County might be over top of allot of oil and gas.  It seemed like Stark was one of the first places they started leasing and they have drilled all around Stark but not really in the county yet.  I have read that drilling companies will leave the better area alone for awhile and drill other areas first so they can get an idea how to drill a new shale play.  They rather make mistakes in the other areas and then have it all figured out when they start to drill the hot spots.  this is of course just my opinion.  But it makes sense.  Anyhow, this is great news for the landowners in Stark.   Lets hope they are right!

Nice link.  I hope we both make out here.

I agree... if you use Google Earth and map all the Clinton-Sand wells in Ohio and place this on top of the ODNR oil zone map the results (see attached map) show all the Clinton wells sitting on top of the oil zone (near perfect match).   It will be interesting to see how much additional oil there is in the Utica formation once they start drilling these areas.

There has been alot of leasing activity between Enervest and Cheasapeak in Stark but most of it has been small lots, likely most the large lots are HBP, I have not heard much on activity between the local oil operators and the big oil companies, anyone else hear anything?
