Marcellus Shale can't pull out of PA because that is the formation of shale that is being drilled for gas. A lot of the companies are moving towards western PA and/or eastern OH due to the Utica and Marcellus being "wet" whereas the shale in eastern PA is considered "dry". What this means is that there are other things able to be pulled from what is drilled over in the "wet" area - hence why Shell and a few other companies are looking into building the "cracker" plant in Beaver County.
Rig counts are down for a lot of the big players because of the price of gas and them not making the profit that they need but industry is not leaving PA anytime soon.
