I am from out of state and coming to Greene County this month.  I wanted to take advantage of the trip to find whatever I can find about our land and drilling.  We are leased to Chevron, and drilling permits have been issued (Dunkard Township).  My question is where do I go to seek records in Greene County (what office?), and what records might I expect to find there?  GMS has been a great source of education for me, but I am still pretty green (as in inexperienced or unlearned; no reference to environmental ardor).  Thanks for your help!

You'll find Leases, Units and other filed there. Mostly anything to do with Title info.

If you're looking for well info. you need to use DEP.

Do lots of internet searching first. Than It's pretty easy to go site seeing to look at pads and such.

Hope that helps. Have a good time!!

Also thought I'd add Use Google Earth because Lots of Hills and trees "hide" most well pads. Should help find a good vantage point to view pads. Bring binoculars too.

Sometimes you can get lucky and they will have the drilling unit maps.

Thank you, Tim and Rob, for the good information.  It will be wonderful to spend some time in Greene Co. again (many wonderful memories of visiting my grandparents), and we will have fun looking around.

I also made a trip last year with my son to see where the land was where we had mineral rights in Greene county. I was fortunate enough to meet the landowners and the people who are now living in what use to be my great grandfathers house, built in 1929. I have found the internet to be a great resource. Also, the courthouse at Greene county, and you might be able to try the local libraries in Waynesburg, Pa. The more you know the better off you will be. How long did it take you to get the permits for drilling and pipelines? We are still waiting to hear back from the DEP on the permits. Then after that do you know how long it takes before you start receiving royalties. Thanks and have a great trip. Take lots of pictures. Debra Pennell

Our lease was recorded in August 2010, and the drilling permits were issued in December 2013. I signed up for the free service through PADEP to receive email notifications of permit activity in Greene County.  That is how we knew when permits were issued.  We do not know if drilling has begun yet. I believe the permits are good for one year. It appears that the well reports that show spud dates are updated every six months, so the only information available now covers through December 2013.  We have no knowledge of any pipeline activity.  This is truly an exercise in patience and hope.

To put it mildly. Especially when the oil/gas companies and drilling companies get you all excited about what you have. They fail to mention how long this whole process takes. You want it on your time, making plans to retire, etc., then come to find out everything happens on their time. The minerals have been there for millions of years, and aren't going anywhere until they decide to get everything approved. It is a long process, and I guess we just have to learn patience, but make sure they are telling you everything. That is why you need to stay on top of things, stay one step ahead of them, get on forums like this so you can talk to other people, other drilling and DEP agencies.Hope this helps.
