What's the latest scuttlebut on all of the Chesapeake selloff stuff ?
Probably the confidentiality clause kicking in.
The published 'Closing Date' (August 17, 2012) is fast approaching.
Has anyone seen a Bidders List to share with the world ?

This topic came up on the Sensibaugh Frac thread. I'll simply repost what I wrote last night.
Some of that acreage is really scattered in a few of the counties and it's not nicely blocked up. Whomever buys it will have to do some legwork to make the position more drillable. Nobody is going to do that until there's at least a better idea of potential production from each county. The total package covers 19 counties, so that's prohibitive in it of itself. From the furthest NW part of the package to the southern most part it's more than a 3:30 hr drive. Seems difficult for a company to operate given the logistical nightmare. If you were buying that package you'd be getting Trumbull, Ashtabula, Portage and (maybe) Geauga as your best locations and buying the rest on speculation. So we'll see if anyone bites on it.
Thanks Marcus Grayson,
We didn't read the 'Sensibaugh Frac thread' as the well lies outside of our geographical interest.
Ashtabula info. is critical to us.

Just read something I think is important regarding EnerVest buying Chesapeake's Utica leasehold acreage.

So EnerVest has bought what Lario wouldn't buy from CHK in Trumbull, which is interesting. There have been a lot of moves in that county and still no real geology to judge it by.
Thanks for your reply Marcus Grayson.
Regarding the lack of geological info.; I agree - at least it seems no geo. that anyone is sharing !
However, there were seismic surveys in the area stopping at rt. 6 last summer - maybe that data helped spur the deal.
Don't really know what the driver was behind EnerVest buying the Chesapeake acres - although I'm still leaning toward a move to consolidate more acres for EnerVest to sell.
Time will tell.
Keep posting.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
