I wanted to see if there is any interest from those who are in Trumbull County in attending any financial/tax seminars as it relates to the shale development. I know there were a lot last year after the initial lease bonuses from BP were paid out. The seminar I spoke at and the others I attended as a landowner, mainly focused on the tax consequences of the lease bonus payment and what could be done to help offset the income tax from such a payment. Here we are a year later and wells are starting to be drilled and pipelines laid, which present their own financial/tax issues to consider. I was part of a series of seminars that were put on for landowners in southern Tuscawarus county earlier this year. Some of the topics covered were:
1. HBP
2. Pipeline negotiations
3. Income and estate tax planning
4. Financial planning/Leaving a legacy
I would think pipelines would be a hot topic, but I know the Farm Bureau had a presentation earlier this year. So, the interest might not be there. One area that doesn't get enough focus is estate planning. Would any of these topics be of interest to anyone? Does anyone have a topic they would like addressed that I didn't list above?
