I need a little help. Thru inheritance, i own 1/4 interest in the minerals and have been paying taxes on these for years. They are located in Tyler Co, Meade District and are refered to as McKimm on the tax dbill. I have 1/4 interest in 32 acres. I was contacted by Noble Energy thru a landman who works for Honor Resourses. Can anyone tell me (1) is this a reputable company and (2) where is this located. I have never been on the property and do"t even know who the property owner is.

Noble Energy is reputable. Haven't heard about Honor Resources.

As to location, I think you will have to trace this back, through the ancestor who passed it to you, on back to where the mineral rights were separated (severed) from the surface, then trace the surface forward to the current owner. Probably not simple.

The company, Honor, has already done that i assume. They made me an offer of $1500.00 per acre. I would like to deal with Noble directly, but am having a problem getting contact info. Thanks for your help Nancy

I think that is a reasonable offer, but there are people with more knowledge about current offers than I.

Noble, I am sure, knows where this is. You should be able to ask them for the information they have about it.

If someone from Honor Resourses has contacted you, that is who you deal with.  Noble contracts companies like Honor to do their leasing and research.  They do not have people in the field.  Your mineral acreage is 8 acres, (1/4 of 32 acres).  They wouldn't deal directly with anyone, unless it was a special circumstance, such as 600+ contiguous acres.  Even then, Honor could easily handle the negotiations and leasing.

Thanks Ken, you have been very helpful. Is this offer in line with what most are getting in this area?

I wouldn't be able to give you specifics, but "beware of Greeks bearing gifts." If this is an initial offer, it is probably on the low side. I would base my demand on what I wanted, not on what the "going rate" is, as I don't think there really is one. Best of luck

Would anyone know which co. is doing the most leasing in Tyler Co, Meade District. I am getting offers from 2 co"s and like to be sure i am getting one that is going to put in a well.  Thanks

You could go to the WV Office of Oil and Gas website

http://www.dep.wv.gov/oil-and-gas/databaseinfo/Pages/OGD.aspx

click on Search Oil and Gas Database,  then Search for Oil and Gas permits, https://apps.dep.wv.gov/oog/permitsearch_new.cfm

then fill in Tyler County, and recent dates. You will get a list of permit numbers, but not Districts. You can go to the Database and Map Information section, go to Oil and Gas Map Search, and find the location. Not sure how to find the district, but if you are familiar with the area you can determine the district.

You can try this database

http://www.wvgs.wvnet.edu/oginfo/pipeline/pipeline2.asp

West Virginia Geological Survey, and for many of the permit numbers there is information including the District. This has a mapping feature as well.

Thanks for the help Nancy. I live in Ohio and i am not familiar with the area. I guess i am going to have to go to the county seat and find  the location of the property.
