I know the ACP is coming right through Upshur County. In fact, it's going to be passing a few hundred yards from my property. If anybody has thoughts or concerns about the project, this would be a great place to put them.Continue

The six-well Alton 2 pad in Upshur County, drilled during the first quarter of 2012, was completed late in the second quarter with 135 stages. Completed lateral lengths ranged from 3,545' (12 stages) to 5,941' (25 stages). All six wells had been…Continue

We have a lease with less than a year left on it. The original lease was for several shallow wells and we are receiving a very low rate per acre. They came in, did alot of prep work but have not drilled. Now they are telling us that they are…Continue

It's been a long time since we've heard anything here about the Atlantic Coast Pipeline and related leasing activity. I'm particularly interested in what's happening in Randolph County. Thanks for any news -- or pointers to where I can learn more.
If they were thinking far enough ahead, and had the finances to do so, yes.
The Atlantic Coast pipeline begins up in Harrison County, and the lines feeding in to it are going to be from up in that area. Harrison and Doddridge have been real hotbeds of activity over the last few years, so there should be plenty of gas available to deliver to the pipeline.
If the producers believed the AC pipeline was a done deal, wouldn't they be putting together drilling units and obtaining permits NOW?? RF
Here's their interactive map. It starts in Harrison County, and runs through Lewis, Upshur, Randolph, and Pocahontas counties. So the gas it carries will all be produced here in West Virginia. It will take a lot of new wells to feed that pipeline. That one pipeline should do some real good for royalty checks, as right now producers are being charged $1.00/mcf to transport gas. They pass that cost on to royalty owners far more often than they should. But that's a story for a different time.

The AC pipeline will carry a lot of gas. Where will it be produced? Are there feeder pipelines from southeast OH and southwest PA? It will take thousands of new wells in northern and central WV to fill that pipe.

So leasing and drilling has slowed down a lot here in Upshur County. I was at the courthouse the other day and didn't see a single landman in the hallway. However, the Atlantic Coast Pipeline is coming through. What experiences have people had with that so far?
Kyle N: Thanks again for the info and your insights.

I think what's slowing down development in Upshur County is that it's dry gas. They're more interested in the wet gas. However, I've heard rumblings that dry gas is becoming more interesting to the companies. Maybe things will pick up soon.
Following up on the pipeline is as simple as doing a Google search from time to time. That's all the more I do right now.
Kyle N: Thanks for the info.
Do you know whether or not transportation limitations are currently restricting drilling in Upshur County? More pipeline capacity is always welcome.
What is the best way to follow developments regarding the Pied/Duke pipeline?
Thanks, Richard Fanelly
People should know that there is a propose pipeline in the works that would pass through Upshur County. It's called the Southeast Reliability Pipeline Project, or the Dominion Southwest Reliability Project, depending on the news reports you find. It's in response to a request for proposals from Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas. There's another pipeline planned in response to the same request for proposals. It would pass through the eastern panhandle. I think it would be better for West Virginia to get this pipeline through Lewis, Upshur, and the other southern parts of the state. Pipeline right of ways are pretty good money for surface owners.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
