WNYC News ran a story yesterday about backyard farmers opposing the PennEast Pipeline as if their interests were more important than New Jersey energy needs.
If you read yesterday’s story in the WYNC News about PennEast opponents you got a glimpse into the narrow selfish minds of those who would deny other Garden Staters the energy they need to heat their homes, make their electricity and secure their employment. New Jersey energy needs are no secret. The state consumed more natural gas than ever in January—some 3,317,275 million cubic feet—but, we’re supposed to ignore all that and worry about whether a pipeline to deliver the gas would interrupt the lives of some backyard chickens. Next door New York City heats more homes with gas every year and it’s cleaning air besides, but it’s those chickens that matter.
Yes, if we’re to believe the WNYC News story and the faithfully delivered appeals of New Jersey hobby farmers, the PennEast Pipeline threatens not only the chickens but a barnyard full of other cute animals (emphasis added):
“It’s probably one of the most horrendous, stressful experiences that I’ve had in my entire life,” said 73-year-old Vince DiBianca, of fighting the pipeline, which is being proposed by PennEast Pipeline Co.
