Marcellus Shale meeting for landowners in Warren County Last night.

The meeting was very informative with areas of leases, drilling, well completions and basically your rights. What most got from the meeting was the need to get experts advice on a plan forward and not to sign anything without research.

Although I have not been in the oil and gas industry for 10 years my experience is vast, world wide and technical. My recent interest in the industry was sparked by the disaster at the Gulf Macondo well last year. When the finger pointing started pieces of the well plan started surfacing and in 5 minutes I realized the industry had not changed much in 9 years.

First let me say that I am a Drill Baby Drill kind of guy and what I know from my experience is that there is a safe way to extract oil and gas. However last night I was very disappointed to find out that the Pennsylvania laws do not ensure the safest methods of producing oil and gas. I can elaborate on that at another time.

Richard, do you know when the next meeting will be for the Warren County landowners group? Or do you know who is organizing the group?

Oil and Gas Operators Manual

For all: I don't see a way to paste PDF files on  the blog so I attached a link which is very useful. If you want to monitor the permit process you should read chapter 3. Oil And Gas Act, Clean streams law, Dams and Enchroachments and soilid wastes, Permits and approvals. The PA DEP is loaded with everything they think you need to know.

I am busy tonight but what I will do is scan the information I received at the meeting and explain some of what I remember. They just touched on each permit and there is alot so I will get out a list of the permits that are required but the details on the permits are probably on the Penn State site or DEP site. I will work on this tomorrow so stay tuned. We all need to keep each other informed. The big boys are in it for the money and this is good, we just need to make sure everyone does there job and no short cuts are taken. If you can't afford to drill a well properly then get out of the business.

Richard

Could you point me in the right direction on monitoring the permit process for me and my sister's two farms contained in EQT potential drilling unit.  They are located in Case district monangalia county, (OSA 31-H Well rectangle). My phone number is 703-754-6019 if you want to call.
