Oil field opportunities for contractors and truckers are exciting. There seems to be plenty of good paying work if you have the skills and equipment. There is one more thing that you will need to succeed – special insurance to comply with contractual insurance specifications.
What’s so special about the insurance required to work for the oil and gas drilling industry, you might ask? The answer is found in the contracts. In order to get oilfield work, you will most likely need insurance with special limits and coverage extensions related to the unique exposures of the oil and gas business. This is true whether you are a trucker with tankers, a supplier or an oilfield service contractor.
This is especially true for truckers. Truckers deal with contracts between shippers/brokers, their insurance company and the government. In oil & gas, truckers will be presented with shipper & broker contracts requiring higher limits of liability insurance than normal operations along with a demand for additional insured and waiver of subrogation endorsements. Also, the contract will usually include a hold harmless agreement in favor of the entity providing the actual contract to be executed. Their insurance policy will have to provide coverage for both truck & general liability including pollution on both. This ties into the government requirements for environmental restoration on the MCS 90 endorsement on the truck and obligations by contract for the GL.
This special insurance is not universally available. In fact, many otherwise fine insurance agencies do not have the experience or resources to help you quickly and easily. We’ve done it for others, and we can do it for you.
Contact us anytime by email or phone and we will get you past this requirement and on your way to the job site. 330-396-7031 sshechter@evansagency.com
