Even though the sarcasm is apparent (i enjoyed it of course) its not really that far from the truth.  May we all be able to rejoice in the day when the Middle East will become nothing but a group of 3rd world countries that they deserve to be, and become completely irrelevant in the world scene because theyre oil is no longer wanted.  I dont like war any more than anyone else but hate to say its a necessity to be there now because whether anyone likes the fact or not, they have our economy by the "you know what" because of oil and we have to maintain somewhat of a quasi stable situation, or at least maintain an intimidating force.

Iran ain't that stupid.  If they tried it, they would lose their entire Navy and Air Force in a week ......or less.

Technically they will still win though by making oil prices spike through the roof

Yes, and they have no defense left, no gasoline coming in, and a population that is starving and on the edge of full revolution.

Note that, at the height of this posturing, they called for new negotiations on their nuclear programs. They are hoping Obama is dumb enough to agree and then they will say we were so afraid of them that we caved. They may be right about that.

I'd sink my money into a time machine and go back in time to correct what should of occurred in the past.  Why?  It was geologists from American oil companies that discovered oil in the middle east in the 1920's.  Back then, the middle east was nothing but sand and camels.  We should of rolled into those countries with our army, planted Old Glory in the sand, and declared "You are now a protectorate of the United States of America, live the American dream too!".  No Saddam, No Awk-Muh-Deem'a'Jihad, No PLO, No Hamas, etc...............No Iraq invasion either!  We'd all be still enjoying $0.12 a gallon gasoline!

jasper; couldn't disagree more.  Don't want to be a colonial power. What should be done is to correct the mistakes made after WWI when all these countries' borders were re-written.  These countries were designed by the old colonial powers like France, Spain, and England after WWI and the borders were drawn more to make the powers happy than to correctly build nations. They cobbled people together that had no ethnic or tribal relationships to each other, thus making them unstable countries that had to ruled by a central strongman. Iraq didn't even exist.

We should redraw all the borders so they more closely align with tribal and ethnic realities on the ground. Allow the people to decide which countries they want to be members of.
