"Shell Oil has tentatively chosen to put a new multi-billion dollar petrochemical plant in Pennsylvania to take advantage of an abundance of natural gas from the Marcellus shale. Both Ohio and West Virginia had tried hard to woo the company.
Shell said it has signed an option on land in Potter and Center Townships in Beaver County about 35 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. It said the site offers good access to transportation by water, rail and road as well as access to natural gas and gas liquids that the petrochemical complex would use both as a power source and feedstock."....

Great news for the Western PA area!
Everyone in this part of the state better go to church on Sunday and say "Thank You".
Fantastic news!
Fantastic news! I would like to see just what was offered to get but it is a great thing for the state and local people. Perhaps some of the Horsehead zinc people can now stay in the area if they so desire.
I imagine land prices in the surrounding area have already gone up. And the local gov authorities are already working on plans for roads, water, power, sewer, and more.
And it will help spur more wet gas development for the landowners in the area. This means more wells, more pipelines, more other support facilities, lots of related industries, and stuff we can't even imagine.
I wonder if when negotiating this deal with the State, County, local Boro Officials, Casey's and Corbett's office the Executives from Shell, had a folder with a check in it and one of the "tricks they used" was to promise the landowner something like payment in 90 days but what they actuall had was a bank draft or something?
Ill bet thats what closed the deal for the folks on our side. They should have been cautious and joined a group..

Shell is looking for an Ohio river site for the cracker plant. Makes sense.
Wouldn't it be something if it went in Horseheads soon to be defunct site!
Holy Cow! Hey , every squirrel gets a nut once in a while! LOL!!!
This is the greatest news to hit our area since who knows when!
And Schnoozie , why so glum? This is fantastic news for the WHOLE tri-state area !!!
glenn; I knew somebody predicted that site but couldn't remember who it was...nice job. Now, what is this week's Power Number gonna be?
Jim,
If I knew I would tell ya buddy !
Glenn
I have serious doubts that you would tell me...as then you would have to split it with me! lol
Its pretty sad that a pathetic loser has to go all over this web site to make personal attacks and ruin a good discussion on such good news. That clown should be restricted to posting on Huffington Post only.
You are are correct!!!! I can't think of anything more personal than making up a story, then attacking it about something that never happened, then droning on about it to gain credibility and for personal gain at $50.00 per acre.
Thank goodness some of us waited to make a decision and did what was best for our families, If I were to believe what I read here, one would think Shell was not interested in PA any more. Apparently they are.
By the way....how much Co-Ex land went to Shell??? Over all??? Meaning their own land they can drill on right away to help feed their new plant????? or am I being pathetic??
WV tried to woo Shell by offering tax relief and other revenues. This will provide a lot of jobs for the economy of Pennsylvania, building the plant and using our NG resources.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
