Well Jim S ,I did my homework and all of the people that he works with are not listed including the training EPA field people.
If one can not count on a company that does work with the protective agencies who can you trust ? I'm not a dumb hay seed .There were several companies that wanted to re complete my wells and I choose the one that I felt would be the least likely to harm my farm .
There are more people involved in this that can't be mentioned right now .
IF you had the choice that I had with the creditials that this large multi-
environmental company owner has you to would have done the same .
These guy's were re completing shallow wells not Utica wells and I am
DOING MY HOMEWORK on my deep minerals. I am here to try to warn others and let them understand the danger of the arbitration clause !
Your statement that small companies can't handle the task isn't really fair .
I'm sure that there are a lot of smaller companies that could do a good job and not break the law . Besides the point is not the size or even the reputation of the company, as we have proven, the point is to have written into your contract what will benefit the Landowner VS the oil company IF a spill were to happen.
Ridgeman...This guy/this company might have a multitude of people on the environmental branch of his business, but he doesn't appear to have squat for people on the drilling side. These are two entirely separate endeavors that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. You can be the best environmental consultant in the world and that fact imparts absolutely no knowledge whatsoever of the drilling and producing aspect of the natural gas business. What an air quality compliance firm has in common with a natural gas driller/producer is a mystery to me. Nothing in their online information would suggest they have any drilling expertise whatsoever.
Drill , same kinda crap happen to me . I still have not had a real clean up and was told that it was just soap and water in there words that was " released " . The clean up I got was they pushed the parts of the contaminated soil that they could reach and piled it into a huge mountain and was supposed to haul it away . I left for a few hours and came back and to my surprise the mountain was gone , there was no way they could of hauled all of that dirt in that short of a time so I asked the equipment operator where did it all go , his response I was told to spread it all out over your hill top ???? What the What .
We are working on something like that now . I really feel like if we get the arbitration clause out of our up and coming lease's that we will run the violators out .
People like this are a very small part of how the O-G business really is thank goodness .
thank you Ridgeman.... It is like the statements on the newsmedia about asking normal muslims to step up and say something about the way they feel about 'islamist terrists' or being blamed for 911 if they are not telling other Americans that they are not of the same doctrine or mindset....very few have actually went on cable/public tv and made comments..but some have.
So to have an oil company care and let others know that they do...is a step in not only letting others know that not all are noncaring about our environment that we live in even in the gas/oil business. Even if your photos are very explicit about such...it helps people understand to report those things if they see such...as to the dangers of it.
And it is a step to admititing that it is a human element that does need more improvement in doing whatever is possible to prevent the abuse to our environment and to the reputation of all that work in the industry. It only emphasizes that not all is 'hunky dorey and great'...as some would like to think.
I just read that Chesapeake had been fined for polluting Towanda Creek and the contamination came from a human error...but Chesapeake is paying for the clean up and admitted to it....but that doesn't solve how to let the deer know and all the other creation that drinks from the water.
Surely it can hopefully be cleaned up when there is error of abuse or neglect in an area of storage and when the the drinking water of wells and even city drinking water for many people accidentally gets polluted.....we surely hope it can. But who can tell the animals 'don't drink the water' or 'don't walk there' or 'don't eat of that old can on its side'....that's a real shame. The same is true for those types of mistakes in the large waters...like the Gulf of Mexico, they have no one to help them immediately and if it wasn't for the volunteers who washed many with Dawn detergent more of those creatures would have died.
I would rather see and hear more about what the oil companies are doing then to have them state 'why blame us for everything?'...so I am encouraged to see what your company is doing and I do see improvement on the websites of many other companies as well, telling the people what they are doing about such. Still it always will point to human error even if the fracing...cause they still depend on the chemicals of the concrete, the technique, the knowledge and skill of who they hire, etc. so the technique may be perfect if performed perfect....it goes back to 'human error' and some just show up for a pay check without really caring...now some want to get legalization of marijuana...what will oil companies do if that get approved? 'have a marijuana test to see if anyone used before they frac? really, all these things need considered. I say, find ways to reduce the error of human element involved in the production and all that pertains.
VG, Thank you for your input and you are right. However I am just a small operation... it is just me. I bought the farm to be an organic plant farm, it just happened to have wells on it. I do see the value in others in the industry stepping up, I loved your example of nonextreme muslims that be condemning the extremist. That was good. The larger companies that do things by "the book" ie: the law, should be running these dumpers out of the industry. We are totally pro-drilling, the legal way.
The problem in my situation is that is was not an accident, it was done on purpose, for profit... no accident here. We live in a world where accidents happen, that we could understand, but not in my situation.
Holey moley.... poor little deer/raccoons, possums, skunks. I hope that the same guy that is supposed to stand out there and shoo away the deer and the rest of the critters from the creek has some buddies that can also line every mile of highway in the State because I can assure you, a heck of a lot more creatures die every single day as a result of trying to cross a road than will die from drinking frac water over the course of the next ten years. Get a grip on reality!
Jason, that's not going to take the problem away trying to hide it from the EPA. The problem doesn't get solved by not talking about it...it gets solved quicker by talking about it...but the ones that need to admit it is a problem in the industry...should do what Ridgeman is doing but in a way that gives more people an outlet or place to get effective solutions. If the local community isn't fining these people or trying to get them to clean up their work environment, etc. then it just sits and the EPA then gets phone calls. By Ridgeman showing up ...most likely his community is going to call the local authorites to get something improved....Ridgeman is doing all a favor with leting others know...do something.
Hiding it isn't the answer...it is reality...and there is too much of it going on.
thanks Jason, another concern I have in the relationship with the governing authority and with the oil companies is that when the oil companies do make mistakes they do get fined (that is if they get caught). and where are those fines going? are they only covering the expense of clean up? or they going into the local community? where? We have in the USA even states considering bankruptcy..(CA. for example) so if the funds for penalties are more where they fill the plate persay...then our government isn't in a hurry to push for more safety precautions or imply more rules. Now on the side of the oil company....they do have to pay fines and they are busy ...but if they spend more money on improving the quality of workers they hire, the relationship with the landowners (that makes a difference also), the procedures, informing people even the landowners of the expected requirements for the sites and installations. Like if an area is used for storage and the sign says no drums should be without a proper container or showing any leekage then call this number..and maybe they do have that already...but inform the public what you are doing and what we can expect for improvement. Not just say well, those things happen, we can't stop that....show us the public and the EPA what really is happening for improvement.
now if you look at this site of recommendations for fines/penalties at DEP in Pa...then you have to wonder with about only 202employees
http://www.elibrary.dep.state.pa.us/dsweb/Get/Document-84024/0130-F... in 2009 and 2010employees were added for the regulation of the oil /gas production....is that enough?
(not sure the correct amount and I think they are just hiring them) covering the state to check the permitting on these drilling sites how things could improve if the oil companies spent more in the improvement..even taking suggestions from the landowners, etc..the public. Rather with these kinds of fines what can a little company do when they can't prove that they even have the money for this liablity? So if there was less mistakes then even the smaller oil companies can survive better and it makes for an easier way for equal opportunity for all these oil companies.

I agree Jason , I don't want to stop anything but the illegal stuff .This has been going on for almost 5 yrs. now and I think that's plenty of time to make thing right .I want us to be free of
our non friends overseas and there overpriced oil .

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
