I expect that, in the very near future, an enterprising attorney, or a group of them, will launch a concerted legal initiative against the various municipalities which have taken such absurd actions. It is truly at least shameful, if not criminal, that a few misguided, dogma-driven individuals can muck up the future livelihood of an entire community with such impunity. I, for one, would be delighted to see their ill-conceived actions crammed down their collective throats and then have to foot their legal bill for that event.
