LOL family M .
I am against gas drilling for a reason .It has disrupted and changed the area I live in.Naturally when you are surrounded with people that promote gas drilling you would here good things.I really don't think I am the minority you claim ! Maybe those that are uninformed about the health effects will say there are for it without any knowledge of it's reality.Yes going to be educated was a good thing but there are other sides then a Pro gas sponsored event. You are entitled to your beliefs and I and entitled to mine. The governor and his boys are Pro gas all the way ,Why shouldn't they say everything is just wonderful? As far as my mental health I believe it is just fine and gets better everyday by informing people about the wrong side of Nat gas drilling.Yes I am a minority here on this blog I see that ,seems like people with the same purpose love to praise each other.Nothing wrong with that I guess .The Nazi's did it in Germany years ago too....LOL
William, once again you are the uneducated on this subject. Number 1, PSATS is the annual conference for Pa Supervisors and township officials. These fine people are not blindly enamored with natural gas, in fact these are the people that receive all the complaints from citizens about the roads, the noise, the pollution, the zoning, and for how little money they make, it is service and i am sure they dont want to hear about complaints but thats part of their job.and they are not hearing complaints. No.2, you are blindly assuming that this administration will sign off on all gas companies wishes, i have watched this as a spectator, but pretty close, and see its not true, and especially because there are great organizations like Pennfuture that are helping keep things honest, and even the loud spoken persons like you serve notice to the industry that they must try to do whats right, otherwise you would be all over them. In fact, its a credit to the NAt GAs industry that the best you can do is come onto our forum and complain, because if you had substance, and if you get substance in the future then you should get the news media, get the agencies and get the guilty party all involved, and let it air publicly...till then, i dont see you providing anything except words. I will post on this forum when i will be holding a meeting in Bradford Co to discuss Natural gas, and i will bring cameras and videocams because i will post any of these things if i get to observe them. I will also notify the gas drilling company if i see anything, find out if they are aware, and what they will do about it, but believe it or not, if there is a large negative impact, i believe they will try to fix it, but you know sugar works better than vinegar, and i have a feeling most of these companies already know you well, and maybe you are right, or not, but i have a feeling no one wants to listen to you, i know i am growing weary of your statements without any documentation. Have a good life, and if it is too miserable, or unhealthy for you, i am sorry to hear that, but at least you can take that royalty monies and move. The insult of Nazis from you is unnecessary, and beneath me, shame on you. As far as health concerns, i have more than twenty physicians in my family, my brother and sister are both Doctors, and i am a professional with advanced degrees, my undergraduate degree specialized in genetic engineering, with a double major, the second being organic chemistry, so i am rather educated, as well as versed in medicine compliments of my family. I listen to all parties, and observe, absorb and then decide, but unless you provide something of substance on this site then, simply put i deem you an ignoramus that wants to rant. I listened to you for a long time because it sounded like you were onto something. I am first a Christian, a husband and a father, but i am also an environmentalist that believes we should use our natural resources, but with care.
familyman, RE: "my undergraduate degree specialized in genetic engineering, with a double major, the second being organic chemistry"
Your academic background places you in the minority with respect to your ability to intelligently and knowledgably access the potential health effects of drilling/fracing/production on the environment and on individuals.
I consider it telling that many of those who have both the education and have further taken the effort to educate themselves on the specifics have seen that the benefits outweigh the negatives.
I consider it telling that many of those who chose to oppose progress either have degrees in fields far removed from ones that would allow them to be qualified to intelligently comment or they are individuals who have trouble with simple spelling and grammar. These individuals, when challenged to defend their positions, resort to repeating discredited or false information; or, they spout vague complaints that could be rooted in jealosy of those others who (through luck or foresight) are benefitting from the windfall.
All IMHO,
JS
Jack,
Very diplomatic indeed. An interesting definition of diplomacy is: "The ability to tell someone to go to Hell in such a way that he looks forward to the journey."
Unfortunately, in the case of William, it would be a wasted suggestion.
Willie , you really amaze me , just when you might take a step forward and add something to talk about you turn around and go a mile the other direction .
When you compare people that are looking to lease there mineral rights to a Nazi that's low and you have lost any respect that you might of gained .
You are putting yourself in a not so good position .
People now know who you are now .
Here is some advice Willie , find a anti fracking group and cry to them and you would be welcome there .
That's right Moe....a waste of time for someone that does not comply when others go along !
Jack your full of crap.....in my opinion ....!!
Being educated doesn't mean you can't be wrong !I live among the drilling and also have doctors etc, in my family !I have been involved in this drilling mess since 2010 and have gone to many seminars and lectures .It depends on how you think that determines the lecture you attend .I have documented plenty of questionable incidences !Also know of many people ( other then Dimock that have had health issues ) .I know what the PSATS is ! Do you really believe with your education and your family contacts that there is nothing wrong with injecting 25000 gals per frac job ,per well times 6 wells per pad ,that equals 150000 gals of frac chemical per square mile, mile after mile is ok and will not become a problem in the future ?Also the silica sand produces a fine dust that can spread for miles .It can produce silicosis by breathing especially a problem for people with respiratory disease (like me) .Look I believe you are an honest person with a honest goal and also think your path has merit ,but it's the process that I am against not the use !If they were using chemicals that weren't poisonous and contained the smoke and dust from the procedure I would come around ,but they are not ! Look on the DEP site for chemicals used (the ones they want you to know about ,not all are) many are a health hazard .Condoning a process that is new ( in use in PA because our geology isn't the same as other areas) without more study of future effects on health and environment is asinine in my opinion (and the opinion of many well educated people) .Your promotion of the gas CNG is only part of the process .It's the production that needs the work,The governor and LT. Gov. and DEP secretary Krancer just know what they're told and sitting behind a desk doesn't give them any hands on experience .Also having financial interests sways their responds ( please don't try to tell me they have no connection with gas interests)...All I try to do beyond all the hype I projected is inform the public that there are negatives to this Nat ,gas drilling process. The companies that are involved have changed procedures recently for the better(only because of people like me bitching about what they were doing) ! our DEP and legislators only develop regulations and laws after people are affected ,they need to get ahead of the game not pick up after something happens. Also Act 13 is not such a sound law like you calm in my opinion !It is some what of an improvement ,but denies townships and cities from limiting drilling in residential areas, and public places that this industrial process has NO place to be done in ! It gives ( only this Nat gas industry ) the right to drill in areas once limited by zoning the right to disrupt peaceful, residential areas with a noisy ,24/7 industrial operation through out the state of PA.I can not understand a person of knowledge not questioning the process (beyond company information ) due to the immense destruction possible from the process.Cementing casings is only a public relations procedure to make the public at ease ! there is no way to seal between cement and the shale and subsurface to ensure a complete and lasting bond that can resists earth movement and insufficient bonding from the start !Also limiting doctors with a law (that can be held up in court) with a confidentiality statement is no way in my opinion of being responsible for what happens if a problem arises !Handling any health issues or environmental problems without questioning would show me that gas companies are really trying to work with the public'sinterest in mind !
You know that paragraph wasnt unreasonable...for the most part. My point to you is that i am involved in the finish end of the industry, and i am very proud of what i do, i have concerns that my portion of the industry needs further regulation and so we are active to try to see that safeguards be put in place. I pay close attention to the new laws like Act 13, because it is a huge improvement, and doctors can access proprietary information to determine any causal relationships. .49% is not water in fracking, but that may be pr talk, but if true one half of one percent of 150,000 gallons is incremental. i dont know, in ny they are exploring propane for fracking. We need to be involved, there is alot more engineering to this than the neighbor sees, the natural gas is going to come out of the outcroppings, sewage plants, algae, wells, and from cows and even a few peoples opinions. It is wrong and dumb to hide behind the statement of must study infinitum,. the goal of continued study is merely a delay tactic. You are not individually responsible for improved laws, but good for you if you are part of the solution, but when i listen to hostilities and comparisons to Hitler, i just see anger. As far as limiting confidentiallity for doctors, that is appropriate. Some anti nat gas people would just as soon exploit and destroy an industry. As far as your respiratory problems, i am sorry for you, and i have no doubt that dust exacerbates it, but as you know, you have been affected by pollens, dust and the sorts for a long time, and those irritants came from....nature. I dont think many companies would be environmentally responsible without oversight, but their penalties are high, maybe not for how rich they are, however the cost of public opinion is very expensive, and if i were a rich drilling company i would sue for libel when someone spouts off statements without substance. Hey, i will be in Bradford, fly over it...just to view the county, and photograph and talk to people, but honestly, up to this point in time, people only speak about increased traffic, a little bit of compressor noise and low unemployment. Dont be offended, i just dont want to discuss this anymore, until i have flown over your county, and speak to every day citizens, and listen to the benefits and the negatives. God Bless you, but please dont ever consider my a follower
6,000,000 mile gallons is an average frac job .Most is water ! 25000 -30000 gallons of Chemical are used in a average frac job (told to me by a geologist who did plenty of fracing) .I can see a drilling company wanting to protect their interest with confidential statements ,but making it a law allows them to pursue a doctor if they feel he over stepped the his commitment .I believe this is not in the public interest. When you come to Bradford county I'm sure you will find many people that support the drilling especially those that have a monetary interest in it's development. However there are also many people that don't support it also and not just from Bradford county ,but from all over .People are having health problems and that should not be ignored by our state and government for profit, sorry !Also LPG being explored in NY has it's problems also. Thanks for the courteous response .I really don't like expressing myself as strongly as I do sometimes but do it because of what I have experienced around me and what I know will be here for many years. It has made me an opponent of gas drilling ( back in 2009 when I didn't know much I also was for it ) till I seen what it brings to rural areas .
Also I do have substance and this forum is not the only thing I post on or question the Nat gas process on !Call the DEP I'm sure they know me !see even though you think I'm off the wall my bitching has pushed the gas industry to watch over their shoulders and to better their procedures ...this only benefits all Pennsylvanians ,in my opinion .What's wrong with challenging corporate and governmental hype ?This is what keeps us from losing the little freedoms we have !

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
