I received in the mail an offer from Global Geophysical Services. They are offering me $10 an acre for permission to do a survey across our land. They're only looking at 16 acres, we have more adjoining but on another survey. So, my questions are, what is the purpose of seismic studies? Pipeline? drilling? There are no roads across the acreage they're looking at. It says they may use helicopters. Anyone have experience?

Here is a couple of videos that explain what a 3d seismic survey is. They will probably set off small explosive charges in a line across your property with a line of geophones to pickup the sound waves. Is it worth $160?
Thanks, the 24 hour a day access to my property doesn't sound like it's worth it to me. As well as they say they may use helicopters, my fainting goats would be flat on the ground every time a 'copter went over and every time an explosion went off. :)
Or they knock down one fence and your goats get out on the road. Also the information they get is worth a whole lot more than $10! I would pay $10 an acre to keep them off my property.
These seismic testing firms get paid HUGE money for the data they collect. At $10/acre it isn't a deal worth taking.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
