The US Geological Survey released its first estimate of the Utica Shale....38 trillion cubic feet of nat gas and 940 million barrels of oil.

Great information. Thanks for post. If estimates are correct, its about 40-45% as good as the Marcellus. But since Utica Shale covers a much larger geographical area, it is far less valuable per acre of land. Do you know the number of square miles in the Marcellus as compared with the Utica?  Also would be nice to see a map with county lines so that oil/gas boundary in Pennsylvania could be better located. I suppose since this is their first estimate, that  the  recoverable gas and oil could be revised upwards or downwards in the future as more wells are drilled. Perhaps you can post a bit more of your thoughts on this subject. As usual you seem to spot things early. Thanks for your informative posting.
