It was hard to tell the distance, below the hills on the horizon.  Guessing near Bethesda.

From Barnesville it looks to be NE.  Oxford has had some wells up that direction, but I haven't noticed them flaring any of the wells they drilled around here.  Gulfport's new Utica would be North, so that doesn't fit.  Anyone else care to add to the triangulation?

I can see the flashes again now looking from south of St C. slightly south of due west.  you would think someone is close enough to see the flare.

I believe it the flare of the Shugert well (Gulfport?) near Mt. Olivet.  Might keep some Barnesville residents awake tonight?  You can sure see the glow from Somerton/Malaga if you look north.

The Shugert well had been my first thought.  It still seems a little far east for that.  I can see some flaming on occasion.  I'll drive up to Mt. Olivet after I get done feeding goats in a couple of hours and check that.

It could just be more cloud cover but it is much brighter now.  The reflection off the clouds is a yellow red.  Most of the wells I have seen flaring were in PA and WV with mostly yellow flames and not this bright.  Does it look red from there?

Confirmed that it is Gulfport's Shugert well.  (Until I blew up the map, I had always thought Mt. Olivet was due north of Barnesville, but it is NE.)  By 1 o'clock it had died down so much I couldn't really see it from Barnesville, but when you get within a half mile it is still an impressive amount of light and noise.  It had looked reddish in the clouds from here earlier, but at the site it was a yellow flame.

Thanks for pin-pointing the well.  It's exiting to finally see a flare from home.  When the well by Fedex next to I70 flared it wasn't a bright enough glow for me to be sure that it wasn't a tower light.
