I am not surprised to see the attacks on Obama and the so-called war on coal but it is not Obama that will put coal on the back burner of energy. It is natural gas. No coincedence that coal has been waning as gas has become cheap, clean and abundant. This will continue into the far future so the smart thing for the coal industry is to invest in the gas reserves in this area. Put down the shovels and start drilling. Save lives, save the environment and save America from middle east oil.

Well if gas has become cheap, then the drillers wont be able to afford to drill, and as far as coal goes I dont know what the btu's compare at, and as far as getting away from middle east oil, wander who has the money in on the backing of this exploration, there is alot of out of town money backing gas, so probably in ten years we will figure out we had our ace and the hole and it's done been sold to someone not from the USA. So as far as the laying down of shovels ,you need to get on your bicycle, hug a tree, and thank GOD for coal because you probably benifit more from it than you know.VOTE ROMNEY
Actually Coal is losing out to Obama and to Natural Gas.
Natural Gas killed Coal for Electrical Generation when it dropped to $1.90/mcf in April.
Lately, spot price (Henry Hub) has risen to around $3.50/mcf.
At this price, Coal is competative ... and the percentage of Electricity generated with Natural Gas has decreased over the past several weeks; while the percentage of Electricity generated with Coal has increased.
Coal's lose to Natural Gas is a function of price (and price fluctuations over time); and may (to a degree) be temporary.
Coal's lose to Obama has nothing to do with economics, it is related to ideology; and much of that lose will be permanent.
I believe in Natural Gas .... and I believe in Coal .... I believe that we need both.
I do not believe that we need the energy policies (or lack thereof) of Obama.
I do not believe that we need Obama; enemy of Coal and enemy of Natural Gas.
All IMHO,

Well said

I think you do not realize that Obama is against all fossil fuels including natural gas. I think you could see ridiculous regulations coming out of EPA and possibly even a moratorium on fracking like they have in New York state. The radical environmentalists and the wind and solar people are all solidly pro-Obama and solidly anti-fossil fuels including natural gas. Wind and Solar can not compete against natural gas but it they are massively subsidized with tax dollars while natural gas gets hindered by excessive regulation, they can be somewhat more competitive. To me Al Gore, Barack Obama, and Governor Andrew Cuomo are all peas in the same pod.I can hear Obama saying "I am for natural gas, but we need studies and careful regulation because natural gas is very dangerous and it can contaminate your wells, poison the air you breathe cause birth defects, give you cancer, make you sterile and shorten your life. Then we will have some leftwing nutcase bureaucrats in EPA issuing regulations that will set the natural gas industry back fifty years. This will all get done with the cooperation and approval of the mainstream media. (I really am not saying the above will happen, but I am not by any means convinced that it could not happen under Obama.)
Belmont County thinks there is a war on coal
Check out the following link to Wheeling Intelligencer. Some of the comments made afterward are stellar.

I am pro coal and all forms of energy. That said Murry wanted to close his union mine long before the election. This is just a way for him to do that and still try to come out smelling rosey. You can pile as many roses that you can on a pile of turds and you can still smell the turds.
The political lie in your picture didn't work! Coal is going to lose to natuarl gas and I am very glad a clean energy (natural gas) is going to win and make me rich! There is no such thing as clean coal unless it is left in the ground and even then it is questionable.
Frank,
I agree there is no such thing as clean coal. You do have to admit that coal has been one of our most cost efficient forms of energy for the last century or so. We make electricity with coal because it has historically been the cheapest way to do so. Natural gas will probably nudge its way ahead of coal as an energy source in the future. It appears that natural gas & oil will make me a little wealthier too in the future. I believe we need both coal AND natural gas until something more efficient and cost effective becomes available. The picture is not a lie, there is a well documented war on coal coming out of Washington and unfortunately the people in urban areas of Ohio and Pennsylvania just voted to prolong that war. They can bitch about fossil fuels all they want, but until they swear off them, they are just hypocrites.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
