I know they just signed leases, but everyone on this board and landowners I'm sure would appreciate the information. I've been told the numbers and that it was a great lease, just trying to figure out why it is so 'hush-hush'?

Rice did agree last week to take ALL S-g acreage. Today I learned they are seeking more acreage in Belmont in addition to S-G.
As a member of S-G I thank Larry and the board for their hard work and dedication. The lease turned out very well in my opinion. I had attended meetings for over a year and learned all I could and took many notes. My main concern was that being farther north of Smith and Goshen Townships, (in Wheeling Township), and with fewer acres than most (< 5), that I wouldn`t be attractive to an oil company interested in signing with the group. Alot of my area has been signed with Hess. The boilerplate lease Hess was offering was poor to say the least, so I did not sign. At all of the meetings I payed particular attention to any mention of all- inclusive acreage. To me, (and I have to admit, I did miss a few meetings but not many), it was conveyed that this WAS an all-or-nothing lease. Even up until the final few meetings... I got a sense that Larry and the committee may have felt pressure from some members to get a deal done. I applauded their patience but was surprised at the turn of events in the final week. It seemed very rushed at the end and I think one of the consequences of getting a favorable lease was to give up something that they had tried to keep from the beginning, an all-inclusive signing. As a big fan of Larry from the onset I had only wished that he would have been more clear on this from the beginning. From the commitees` viewpoint it may have seemed if they would have stated from the beginning that some acreage could be left out then maybe the signed members would have been far fewer or that many would have signed other leases, leading to less leverage for the group.
Does anybody know how/when Rice intends to inform the landowners that were outside of the "circle that they drew on the map" as to whether or not they will be making a commitment to lease/flip our acreage? I know they committed (verbally-nothing in writing) to get back to the landowners in 30 days, but they didn't say how. It wasn’t clear if Rice was going to wait till the end of 30 days and do a mass mailing or if landowners will be contacted individually? How will we be contacted….by e-mail, letters or phone call?
You might try contact Rice Energy directly. They have a leasing office in St. Clairsville @ 252 W. Main Street,
My understanding is that they took all of Smith Twp for the S-G group, but I cannot say if they will continue to take all acreage or terms they would consider.
Per Larry this AM, ALL S-G members are included now.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
