CRACKER PLANT IN MONACA, PA?? Shell's Option to Purchase Horsehead Site Expires June 30, 2013..

Does anyone know or has anyone heard whether Shell intends to exercise it option to purchase the old Horsehead Nickel site in Monaca, Beaver County, Pennsylvania? The original option to purchase was to expire at the end of 2012, but Shell obtained a 6 month extension. If Shell exercises its option this is very positive news. If Shell does not exercise its option, this would be a negative for western Pa. unless they had an alternate site in western Pa on which to build their proposed Cracker plant? I would think area newspapers and other media would be bombarding Shell with questions about its intentions. But so far I have seen nothing in the print media or elsewhere. Does anyone out there know anything?

 Paragraph 4 in that article explains where Shell is with this project,they are still getting there ducks in a row.This project is hugh they need large pipelines coming in from other countys and I would think they are working contracts with other gas companys for there products.This will take years to get this refinery up and working.

I view this as very good news.  I am getting from the grapevine that they are spending a lot of money behind the scenes!  I will say the cup is half full at this point!

I agree Mark I talked to a a property owner next to Horsehead who said they were approached by Shell to sell a few weeks ago..

I can tell you Shell is still recording row agreements in Lawrence County almost daily. I still see the occasional lease recorded as well. We will be the last to know what the plan is , but there obviously is something afoot. Keep your eyes & ears open. :-)

shell has a well near boyers pa. one due west going in at Forestville and one west of that in slippery rock one would think the pipeline should go west then south to monaca if the cracker plant is going in.

 so why is the pipeline going east to Venango county along route 58 ?

could be they are connecting to a pipeline that will transport to a location that can process the gas..it will take years to build the plant when the decide to build...they can't wait until the plant is built..RRC uses the Sunoco pipeline to transport there gas for cracking..

Like I said be assured there is a method to their madness. Shell isn't some wildcatter out to make a fast buck. I think they will sell dry gas in the interim to HBP and pay for infrastructure in preparation for bigger things. For example, they completed 4 wells at the Patterson pad yet sell from only two of them. Do you think maybe the two idle wells are wet and future feedstock for the cracker......? We must be patient. Hey, they are still holding on to the option from horse head aren't they? What's that telling you?

Been thinking.....what stands between shell's leaseholds and the cracker site......Chesapeake!!! Maybe shells big shot lawyer is also here for negotiations to buy out chk leaseholds in beaver county.....? Just a thought but could explain the delay......
