How do you know when a well goes into production?

Do the unit owners just have to wait until the first royalty check arrives 6 months later or does REX notify everyone when the well actually goes into production?

Our first check just showed up. Sometimes you will get division orders first sometimes you will not depends on how far behind the gas companies are on their paperwork.

How long from permit to drilling, drilling to completion, completion to production, and production to check?

I'm seeing some wells being permitted and then drilling almost right away while others are permitted and then just sit there for months...

We are not in a REX unit but most gas companies operate the same as far as royalty payouts go

My land is surrounded on three sides by REX.  I would not be surprised if I end up getting pooled with them.  Let us know how everything works out.

Is it standard for royalty checks to take 6 months? Over a year ago I inherited a well pad that was shut down. Just found out that they have been pumping for 5 months. I'm in WV and checked the WVDEP and it doesn't list any production numbers for 2013-14. I need to figure out how to get payment.

You need to call the company who you signed lease with and ask. Make sure you have the lease no. and well name, your name etc. etc. all ready when you call. I have a well in Greene Co. Pa. that has been in production for over 6 months and I would not have known anything if I hadn't called repeatedly and even went to site  of well to see what was going on..BTW I still haven't received anything yet no division orders nothing but have emailed several times and have been told they were working on title issues? Its up to you to find out anything...Good Luck

In Ohio there is information on ODNR. That said it isnt always 100% accurate. Can you tell anything by looking at the well site. Are there tanks or is it all dry gas. If there are tanks they must be emptied regularly by truck and you should see them coming and going. Was a pipeline existing or did you see it installed. Was it flared ... Cheaspeake has stopped flaring every well. We have six near us that just went online. We saw one flared. We saw pipeline installed, pressure tested, etc. Saw a truck enter one well site yesterday. If you call company with well number will they tell you. Chesapeake has given info to some of our neighbors. We did not call waiting patiently.

The Unit I'm in went online about 2 months ago. It will be probably third quarter before ODNR even reports it. No division orders yet.

As one poster mentioned, call them, get it from the source, usually royalty owner contacts.

Of course, a pad that is operating is, well, operating, If there's liquids or condensate you'll see trucks.
