Anyone out there know how the horizontal wells that Enervest drilled into the Clinton sandstone in Stark County (Ohio) are doing?

Good to know - Thanks. It makes sense, especially in areas like Belmont County where the shale is 8,000 to 10,000 feet down and some companies are pushing laterals out 2 miles. But that is still not even close to 300 million gallons per well. When we started learning about these shale wells a few years ago, a mile deep and a mile long lateral seemed an amazing accomplishment. The drillers have certainly stepped up their game here recently. I believe they will continue to push the envelope and better develop this resource in the future.

FB,

My firsthand knowledge is fom Belmont County. On a related note, I've been impressed with the drillers' ability in the southern geography to flatten  type curves by severely choking back production rates, and thereby preserving reservoir pressure for long periods. Seems like once they establish & publish goliath IP's for their investor reports, they immediately choke back and produce at rates a fraction of IP (but still quite high). Looks to me like a good idea. Interested to hear your opinion of this practice.

j-o do not go out and buy gas frak stock. it is a looser. universal is doing the fracking for enervest. I see no LP tankers on site. they are talking about the northern Utica. not the Clinton.

By the activity level in the northern utica they cant be fracking many wells up there because their not drilling but a few if that   With all the big boys walking away I feel they are along ways from cracking the code ....now with the big boys gone who going to afford to figure it out

I think what is trying to be said is that the Utica shale is very dry in terms of moisture content . When you add water it makes the shale or clay in the formation swell and plug off the fractures . The oil molecule is a lot larger than gas or wet gas by adding butane you not only thin the oil but you don't get the shale wet .

one good thing with all the research going on with these first 1000 wells should be some great ones to be drilled .....we have only just begun to see what this monster of a utica can really do ........lots of poor folks will have money to burn  between royalties and good paying jobs 2walmarts better build on

Thinking the article said much the same pipe fitter.
The way I read it EV frac'd. some Utica wells in the 'Oil Window' using butane because they believe that introducing water into the Utica to fracture actually deteriorates the fissures the fracturing process creates.

OIL ROCK AND WATER, DO THEY MIX???? THAT IS THE QUESTION. UNLESS THAT ROCK ABSORBS THE WATER WHY WOULD WATER HURT THE ROCK???? THEY INJECT SMALL PLASTIC BALLS ALONG WITH SAND INTO THE FRACK THAT OPENS UP THE ROCK AND MAKES A HOLE FOR THE OIL AND GAS TO RUN INTO. SO A FRACK IS LIKE TAKING A HIGH PRESSURE WASHER AND STICKING IT IN SHALE ROCK IT MAKES SOME KIND OF HOLE THAT BECOMES A LARGE OPEN PIT AROUND THE PIPE, CAN ONLY WASH OUT SO MUCH ROCK AND YOUR DONE, THAT IS WHY THE SHALE IS SO HARD TO MAKE IT WORK. MY IDEA WOULD BE DRILL 2 WELLS SIDE BY SIDE LETS SAY 20 FEET APART AND THEN HIGH PRESSURE ONE TO THE OTHER ONE IN ONE OUT.

YOU SEE FRACKING WITH 4000 PSI WATER AT 300 GALLONS A SECOND OR MORE AND NO WHERE TO GO EXCEPT INTO THE SHALE ITSELF, I THINK THEY NEED MORE BRAINS, LIKE TRYING TO BREAK UP ROCK WITH A FEATHER. BUT HALLIBURTON IS HAPPY MAKING THERE BILLIONS.

SAND IS EASY TO FRACK , BUT THEY STILL HAVE NO WHERE FOR THE MATERIAL GO WASH OUT TO.

OIL IS NASTY, NATURAL GAS IS WHAT THE USA NEEDS, IT COST 1000.00 TO PUT NATURAL GAS ON A TRUCK AND NATURAL GAS WOULD BE LESS MONEY, BUT THEY WANT TO USE LIQUID NATURAL GAS AND THAT SUCKS, ALL YOU NEED IS A GAS. BUT THEY DO NOT WANT TO GET 100 MILES TO THE GALLON EATHER.

I HAVE A LOT MORE I WANT TO SAY I WILL BE BACK

LETS SEE, A 300 FOOT DIAMETER X 20 FEET DEEP HOW MANY GALLON ARE IN THERE, THAT IS WHAT THEY PUT DOWN A HORIZONTAL WELL.

Your Model works out to be 10,560,454.785 gallons.

(Pi x Radius Squared) = Area

Height x Area = Volume

7.47 Gallons per Cubic Foot (Water Volume)

3.14159 x 150' x 150' x 20' x 7.47 Gallons per Cubic Foot

BP DRILLED WELL IN TRUMBULL COUNTRY IN MECCA, IT IS NOT THERE ANY MORE THEY PULLED THE PIPE AND COVERED IT UP. HAS ANY ONE HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT BP LATELY? I AM THINKING THEY ARE LOOKING FOR THE OIL AND LIQUIDS, AND ALL WE HAVE IS LOTS OF GAS AND IT IS TO CHEAP.

Take the above link as it discusses EV using Liquid Butane to frac. Horizontal Utica well bores in the oil window.

There's a link in there to an article discussing what they're doing.

They say they have problems with the Utica rock using water to fracture it and as everyone knows the Utica rock is shale.

Clinton is different rock it's sandstone and water works.
