As 2014 limps to a close, I propose an unofficial contest to nominate the song that best describes the 2014 Marcellus/Utica Experience.
Rules:
The contest ends at Midnight, December 31st.
You can submit as many entries as you choose to.
The winner to be chosen by our Publisher (Keith Mauck); if he is willing to accept that daunting challenge, (otherwise it will have to be me).
The Prize: one Cyber Ham Sandwich (and bragging rights).
My first entry: A song many of us can relate to,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahAOU1HZXlc
My second entry: A sad song about trying to get out of a lease with Chesapeake Energy,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S9ecXWCBCc
Can you match (or better) either of these entries?

Jack ----- you have set the bar exceedingly high with the tune from Fiddler on the Roof, but a contest is a contest ----- hmmmmm. (This could take a little time).
This can't match the refinement or depth of "If I Were A Rich Man", but it has to describe how a few souls out there felt when they finally received their first long awaited royalty check.

"Just Got Paid" - ZZ Top
I just got paid today,
got me a pocket full of change.
Said, I just got paid today,
got me a pocket full of change.
If you believe like workin' hard all day,
just step in my shoes and take my pay.
I was born my papa's son,
when I hit the ground I was on the run.
I had one glad hand and the other behind.
You can have yours, just give me mine.
When the hound dog barkin' in the black of the night,
stick my hand in my pocket, everything's all right.
I just got paid today,
got me a pocket full of change.
Said, black sheep, black, do you got some wool?
Yes, I do, man, my bag is full.
It's the root of evil and you know the rest
but it's way ahead of what's second best.
This has to be the official theme song of the anti-fracing and anti-everything crowd. I have to tell you though, for years my wife thought that they were singing "There's a bathroom on the right". I will never not hear that when this tune is played. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUQiUFZ5RDw
"Bad Moon Rising"
I see a bad moon rising.
I see trouble on the way.
I see earthquakes and lightning.
I see bad times today.
Don't go around tonight,
Well, it's bound to take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.
I hear hurricanes a-blowin'.
I know the end is comin' soon.
I feel rivers overflowin'.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.
Don't go around tonight,
Well, it's bound to take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.
Alright!
Hope you got your things together.
Hope you are quite prepared to die.
Looks like we're in for nasty weather.
One eye is taken for an eye.
Well, don't go round tonight,
Well, it's bound to take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.
Don't go around tonight,
Well, it's bound to take your life,
There's a bad moon on the rise.

Jack,
Great idea !
Life gets a bit too serious at times and so does this site. It's always good to take a deep breath and re-group.
The idea of using the song contest is that deep breath here, at least for me.
But, like Sage59, this will take some thought for me.
I see by the early posts that the competition will be stiff with so many great songs entered.
Thanks.

To be sung to the theme of "The Beverly Hillbillies"
Come and listen to my story about a man name Cox
A poor hillhippy with long gray locks
Then one day the man came with his drills
He said "come on Mr. Cox, I'll pay all your bills"
Well the first thing ya know old Cox is a millionaire
His pretty little wife said " lets move away from here"
She said " a cabin in the mountains has always been you quest"
So they loaded up the Jeep and they headed out West
Montana that is, Rocky mountains, wild elk, solitude........
" The Montana Hillhippies," Brought to you by : The nice folks American Energy Utica,
Bringing fuel to America and the world!!!!
And
The lawyers at Remmiger and Associates who say "never sign a contract until your Lawyer reads it First"

summer.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
