Author sounds like a lefty to me. Consider the source!

The Appalachian Basin has been called the largest, or 2nd largest deposit of Hydrocarbons on Earth.

Assuming this is true, the countries listed in this story may have sizable deposits of Oil and Gas but only one or two places on earth could have the largest or 2nd largest deposit of Hydrocarbons on Earth.

My bet is the Largest Deposit Of Hydrocarbons on Earth is in the Appalachian Basin, in the Rome Trough that cuts across 5 states and into Canada.

Take a look: 16 oil and gas plays as you drill to 24,000 feet. Wells are being drilled to 21,000 feet into the Point Pleasant Shale in Columbiana County today. Imagine stopping at 16 different oil and gas plays on the way to 24,000 feet.

In Ohio we are effectively "on the Beach" of an ancient ocean which is why there are 3 or more shale plays in this area. The real production is in the depths of the ocean known as the Rome Trough.
