How would I navigate parcels in the Rome trough in Greene county, Pa? Thanks. Debbie
Debra,
You are sitting atop some very good shales but the Rogersville is not believed to be one of them.

Debra,
With 16 Oil & Gas plays in the Rome Trough where you're located, you'll eventually be approached by those who know where the real wealth is located.
The Rome Trough is either the largest or 2nd largest Oil & Gas find on earth. Being number 2 isn't bad in this case.
Someone put a map saying that a big rig was being moved into the Holbrook area in October. October is here, has anyone seen or heard about any activity? Thanks.
Debra,
I believe you're misinterpreting the map. What Ironfarmer was trying to tell you is that the rig that is being utilized in the Rogersville (the October rig) is nowhere near your lease in Greene Cty PA. Now don't get discouraged cause there is and will be much drilling activity in Greene Cty and at some point this will most certainly impact your acreage. Trust me "Greene county" is the place you want to be as the old Beverly Hillbillies song says (tic). You are in the sweet spot Debra so be very happy. You have Marcellus and Utica as well as upper Devonian under you so that is the tri-fecta. Forget the Rogersville at this point it doesn't concern you. Rogersville is unproven at this point anyway but not so for those other 3 I mentioned. Hang in there and be patient.
If you truly want to become a student of the region and know what is going on I suggest you get a very inexpensive subscription to Marcellusdrilling.com and follow the daily stories this man posts each day are awesome. $5.95 per month and you can learn all you want. Here is a sample of stories that affect Greene county just recently. This company Rice Energy is a very strong candidate to ultimately lease your acreage and they are a great operator. You might reach out to them if you are proactive sort of mineral owner.

Debra,
Read the lease offered by Rice. If it's the same lease I saw last year you won't sign it.
Even if the lease has been revised, the rule is Never Sign A Lease Written By an Oil and Gas Company. There will be no protection for the landowner as EVERYONE in Carroll County now realizes.
Find a lease written by a local lawyer, read it, and get a 2nd opinion before signing even if the Bonus is acceptable. For now the Bonus is Everything, the Royalties have been nothing.
PA hasn't really been explored down to that level yet, so maybe, maybe not.
Rig supposed to be on site any day now, and I would think there should be some increase activity already.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
