Signing with Big companies vs. Small independants.... food for thought...

My experience with my acreage in SW penn and NE penn....I have 600 acres total, divided into 2 seperate locations. I signed 1 lease with a big company and the other half with a small independant. The bigger company is still yet to pay me the initial bonus and it is hard to get in contact with them. The independent has been in contact with me throughout the process (I've gone fishing twice with a managing member, haha), and I just recieved my check. The bigger company says they might not even…See More

Regulations on Natural Gas Drilling: An Analogy that we can all relate to

Let's face it, the majority of people involved with shales have no clue as to what is going on around them.  They don't know the history of drilling, they don't know the regulations, and they don't know the environmental protection advances the industry has made over the past 50 years since the start of hydraulic fracturing.  I'm not saying this in a negative way.  Why would people know anything about these new technologies?  If instead a "shale boom", let's imagine there was a "maplewood boom"…See More

Yes Roy that is correct, you did not answer one of my questions are here are a few more. Where is the toxic waste water going? What happens to the sludge in the waste pits when it dries out and blows all over the fields? Why does the landowner have to spend hundreds of dollars getting their water tested when they choose not to lease but the neighbor's well's have been poisoned as is the case in Dimock. No instead of answering me , you resort to your usual pathetic tactic of attacking me by calling me stupid or accuse me of " spewing garbage" Instead of answering my concerns in a respectful way. I do not believe you are a real person.. I think you are a rep for the gas industry trying to intimidate me. Well it will not work. I am a loyal tax-paying citizen who is concerned about the environmental impact of drilling. And the unpleasant nature of your replies leads me to believe that deep down, you yourself do not know the truth about gas drilling/

Oh dear, I'm afraid my sarcasm went right over your head in spite of your being a brilliant business man. I think I will gracefully bow out of this website since I am not a popular gal. And when all my neighbors are building MacMansions with their new found wealth, I will still be poor, but I will die richer. Richer because I stuck to my principles of preserving the beauty of the land. Apparently you find that to be unpatriotic although it is difficult to imagine why reaming out the remaining natural gas at the pace that is going on is pro american. I am not categorically opposed to gas drilling. I am opposed to contaminated wells ( 20 in my area) trucks that do seismic testing at the end of my driveway on a beautiful morning on a national holiday ( Memorial Day) and well covers blowing off the neighbors wells. FYI: the DEP is investigating Cabot Oil and Gas for violations on that one. I doubt very much you have ever lived any where near a gas drill. I am currently surrounded by them and I have the right to object. THIS DOES NOT MAKE ME STUPID, UN AMERICAN OR ANY OTHER INVECTIVE YOU HAVE FOR ME! So goodbye Roy, I wish you well and I hope you get really, really rich.

I guess I'm too stupid to understand royalties in spite of my Ivy League education!

Dear Roy: I am not bashing anyone. I am saying I choose not to lease my land for gas drilling. Would you have a gas well on your property? I doubt it. Cabot Gas has offered me $2700 an acre to lease my land. That is chump change for an industry that made 3.5 billion in profits last year. And for that they would be able to tear up my land and put as many wells as they wanted. I understand your point of view, I simply disagree. But that is the beauty of discourse.

Dear Roy: You can hardly accuse me of being anti-American since you don't. even know me! Fossil fuels will run out: this is fact. They are not renewable. In about 150 years we have managed to burn up fuel that took billions of years to form. We need to find renewable sources now. Accidents are not uncommon with gas drilling. Read about Fort Worth Texas. Would you have a gas drill on your property? And for the record, I am not rich. I am a single working woman and does the idea of having passive income appeal to me? Of course! But I would rather preserve the beauty, clean air and water that at least I have enjoyed for the past five years. On Memorial Day, a national holiday, the seismic trucks passed all day; the noise was earsplitting. Yes, I would like to see the end of fossil fuels. And no, I am not a evil demon, I am an Ivy League educated chef. Sorry if my comments upset you but last time I checked, it was still a free country.
