Here is a link to an article written by a prominent oil & gas attorney about lease clauses often found in leases offered  in the Utica and Marcellus Shale plays. Interesting reading and reinforces the fact that you MUST have a good landowner-friendly lease that you FULLY understand.

Thanks for the link. Mr. Emens is counsel to the Mohican Basin Landowners group. Leaders of that group and Mr. Emens were kind enough to make presentations at a meeting of landowners in Licking County. He reviewed the points in the linked article and also made the point that individual landowners cannot match the bargaining power of the corporate lessees -- thus the importance of forming landowner associations (non-profit) to present a united front and create greater bargaining power.

Patricia, are you in Wayne county? I know some of the Mohican Basin people live here. I have started a Wayne County, Ohio group in anticipation of the shale rush moving this direction in the future.

Finnbear

Not Wayne. My husband and I own land in Coshocton County, Clark Township. A group has been started for Coshocton County but there are fewer than five members. If you know any Coshocton County folks, please refer them. I'll refer anyone I come across that is in Wayne County. BTW, my husband just got back from a trip to Finland to visit relatives on his mother's side. Does "Finnbear" indicate any Finn ancestry?

No Finn ancestry, mostly Irish and Italian, with a little Welsh and Blackfoot Indian mixed in so I guess that makes me a mutt.   ;-)

My favorite deer rifle is an old Sako Finnbear in .30-06 caliber.

The shale rush will likely hit Coshocton before it gets to Wayne.

No knowledge of any activity at this time.

There is a Coshocton County group on this web site that you may wish to join. http://gomarcellusshale.com/group/coschoctoncountyohio?xg_source=ac....

You can also find links in the Ohio Landowners Group on this web site to maps that show the geographic location of the Marcellus and Utica shale formations.
