What is the significance of being north or south of the "Point Pleasant extent" line?

According to ODNR's maps (http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/Portals/10/Energy/Utica/Interval-Thickne...), as you move from northern Trumbull County into Ashtabula County, the thickness of the Utica Shale increases to more than 300'.  That would seem to indicate better prospects for oil and gas the farther north you go.  In northern Ashtabula County, what is the significance of the "Point Pleasant Extent" line?  What difference will that make to a driller if my land is north or south of that line?

Are you sure you are talking about Utica and not Marcellus?  I heard that Marcellus is 300' thick or less in Trumbull & Ashtabula.  According to the geological maps I've seen--online--Utica is significantly thicker as far north as Canada.
I'm referring to the Utica.
I'm sorry.  I reread your first statement.  I misread it the first time.  You are correct about your observation.  The Utica does get thicker the further north you go.  However, according to my brother-in-law, a well tender, Utica just like other beds of shale is not a consistent thickness even at depths and areas where it is presumed to be thicker.  Each layer of substrate may be uneven and patchy even in areas where they find pockets of thick shale.
Its there be patient folks. I got offers tonight for Ashtabula and Trumbull $3000 15% and I believe it will grow very soon.
You've got offers tonight?  From whom?  Can you be more specific?  I hope the geological findings in our county are far better than they were when the companies were making shallow wells.  Many people are disquieted by the rumors that the well in Newton Falls wasn't that proficient--even though--it was a Marcellus well.
Tri state energy. But there is more coming. Be patient I will let you know more as my offers come in.
