Why are the gas companies showing more interest in southern Butler counties than the northern ones?

It looks like if you follow the line of wells and well permits from New York and Bradford County PA southwest to West VA and Ohio, that there is a pattern along the Marcellus formation, right down the center of it.  This makes me wonder if the northern Butler counties just don't fall into an area that has the geological formations to make it worthwhile drilling.

Anyone have any thoughts about this?

Thank you, Terry.  I will look into the group.  How does one get in touch with landmen?

...Shell has two offices in Butler county..one in Cranberry and another one in the city of Butler. They are very active in Butler county, and alot of the landowners I spoke with really liked working with them. They will  work with you and your attorney , and will not pressure you. Call either office and they refer you to one of their agents

Do you happen to know the number to the office in the city of Butler?

Thank you
