Eastern Ohio well map via Google Earth

Attached map shows well locations and well types for several eastern Ohio counties. The map index allows you to select different counties, townships and well types; you can zoom in and out to change your viewing altitude; you can get well information by positioning you mouse over the well pin; newer wells (after 6/10) are identified with red pins, larger red pins identify likely Utica wells.

 

To view this map you need the latest version Google Earth viewer.  The free viewer can be downloaded at: http://www.google.com/earth  Google limits the number of concurrent data points/well locations - if you open more than three counties at once some data points may disappear.

 

The map shows some interesting patterns.  The high density green pin areas are likely good  areas for Clinton wells... will these be Goldilocks areas for the Utica wells?   Most of the black hole zones are likely due to poor producing wells and most of the current Utica wells are located in these areas...  do the geologist see these areas as good areas or is it simply that they were available for drilling?

 

I’d would be very interested in hearing back what others observe, theorize from the maps or know from experience or hear-say.

Do they open with Google Earth when you click on them?

Try installing the latest version of Google Earth http://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/agree.html and see if that solves the problem.  Let me know if that works.

It is working now this puter was really screwed up with 104 updates, bought a PC tune up software and uninstalled EARTH then re did it with the plug ins and whipee! Cant get the documents to open though when you have the well info pop up, can that be done?

It might be the ODNR server.  It it crashes daily.

BPW, in order to open the documents you need to make the following changes to GoogleEarth viewer:

1) Launch Google Earth.  2) click ‘Tools’ at the top of the viewer. 3) click ‘Options’  4) click the ‘General’ tab  5) click the box option “show web results in external browser” .

In the next update (this weekend) The map description will have a well card link.  The new link will provide both production data and documentation links. 

I am currently working on a view that will show wells by operator... I believe the operators will be subleasing deep rights and I thougth it might be useful to view wells by operator to help understand this new trend.

Marinell, Morgan county is located in the SouthCentral map file.  

Perry is missing, I will add it to the next update.

I am looking at the Ohio Core Sample PAPER map.  The only date I see is 1983, so it's hard to make predictions.

There are only 3 core samples in Morgan County and many, many more in Noble on that map.

Did the oil companies go for Noble quickly because there was lots more information or because they saw what they wanted there?  Why is Morgan County lagging behind? 

Obviously, I am not a geologist.

I bought a hard copy.  My husband now says he found it online.  Will have to check.
