Marcellus is about 100' Cooperstown  area, Companies had to drill through the Marcellus to the Medina sandstone formation.

I don't really know but that may be a part of it.  What I hear is that they have burned through their allocation for land and are now consolidating what they have in N Butler so they can unitize their holdings. Low prices for dry gas may have impacted their decision on future drilling.

I don't know what they will do for people that are holding the bank drafts given them when they signed a lease.  I believe Shell's lease allows them to cancel the lease if they see fit right up until the payment is made.

Seneca drilled a Utica well near Polk, Vertical only very tight on info. But rumors are it looks very good. Heard + 300' of shale, but only rumors. No info. on BTU'S or hydrocarbons

the marcellus is thin and immature in venango and prone to fissures

it is utica and trenton black river

we will have more activity than infrastructure in the upcoming months in 2012

How are you privy to that info?  Are you a driller??  Have you done testing?

What criteria are you using to base your comment that the marcellus shale is thin and immature here? Are you basing this on the one well that has been drilled here?   100 ft thickness in Cooperstown in not thin.  I agree with you that the utica will be the major play here.

not a driller

not hearsey not a rumour

don't turn this into a ohio cyberbully event

xto is already building a cracker plant in butler

I am only trying to figure out where your getting your info. from.  If you take that offense to that, my apologies.  What criteria are you basing your comments that the marcellus is thin and immature here?  What is criteria are you basing your comment that the marcellus is prone to fissure here?  Are you basing these comments on the one well that was drilled in the county?  Do you have some inside information that you would like to share with us?  Thanks!

Not sure about XTO, But I think there are owned by Exon - Mobile. Rex Energy has hit some very good Utica in northern Buttler county not trying to correct anyone sorry if it came across that way , Just trying to correct a lot of miss info. out there, and trying to get land owner the best deal posssible.

Lets talk some FACTS instead of hear say First 100' is not thin, only one Marcellus drilled in Venango county with a lateral, frac did not go well could have be fissures or could have been deeper Medina wells in the area. Second Washington county area Marcellus is only 150' thick very high production and hydrocarbon, could be more mature then Venango county Third Trenton Black River is a very hard formation to hit, not as wide spread as the Marcellus or Utica. Fourth western Clarion county formation very close to Venango counties BTU'S 1304.58/ PROPANE 5.85% /ETHANE 16.83% / METHANE  73.62% / wet gas. The ethane is what is making the high BTU'S, needs stripped, pipeline companies will not take 1300 BTU gas. fACTS NOT RUMORS OR HEARSAY. The ethane is why Shell is looking to build a cracker plant.

Matthew:

Are those numbers from Clarion County for Marcellus or Utica?  How close are they to Cranberry?

I assume that the gas needing to be stripped is a good thing (i.e. wet gas)

Marcellus, As the crow flies 10 to 12 miles, Yes not sure of the price at the moment, but the hydrocarbons are valuable. A craker plant and a stripper plant are two different operations
