Can anybody tell me if any companies are still purchasing acres in Jefferson Co Pa We got burnt by a company that kept us hanging for over two years and right at the end of the contract pulled the plug leaving us with nothing

It's pretty quiet here in east-central Clarion County--not sure when any companies will be leasing. Like you, we were tied up twice over the last two and half years and no bonus or deal. Have 90 acres to lease (all strata) and hope that something happens in the next 5-10 years. Passed on $1,500 an acre with Atlas a couple years ago. Maybe shouldn't have...
What area in Jefferson County is your property? Who showed interest in the past? Exco Resources, EQT & CNX Gas seem to be have some interest in Jefferson County...
Who burned you? How coulf you get locked for 2 years?
Douglas
I'm sorry about what happened to you and what you went through. It was very tough and unfair.
Still, I have to give you high marks for loyalty. To conceal the name of the company that did that to you, even after the miserable way you were treated, is one of the most amazing displays of loyalty I've encountered. In the end you could not count on them, but they certainly can count on you. Many landowners would like to know the name of such a company as that, in order to be warned and stay away. You help them by not revealing their name. I'm not sure they deserve the high level of help you provide them.
Douglas,
I may have misunderstood. You mentioned companies "purchasing" acres in Jefferson County. Did you actually SELL your minerals (OGM) to a company and defaulted on a contract? Or like me, did you lease your Oil & Gas rights to a company that held them for a year and then extended the term, in order to market to other companies? Thanks.
He leased with me Frank. What makes you think he was treated miserably? We tried to market the leases, the buyer we had lined up backed out. Eastern Jefferson County (PA) is all dry gas. Extremely hard to find anyone to take a lease out there, let alone get top dollar. The deal we had in place would have netted our landowners with the highest per acre payout the county had yet seen... unfortunately it didn't happen.
"What makes you think he was treated miserably?"
Well old sport:
The use by Douglas in his OP of the words "burnt", "hanging", "pulled the plug", and "leaving us with nothing" pretty much gave it away. :-)
Course I'm not a mind reader. Certainly it's possible Douglas emerged from the experience with warm and loving feelings toward your company. If so, my interpretation of his words would be erroneous.
Here is my take:
You all went for the brass ring and missed. I find no fault with that provided Douglas was made aware, in advance, of the risks of waiting and not leasing on a poorer deal but instead holding out for larger money. If Douglas participated eyes wide open, then shame on him for complaining now. If not, he has a legitimate beef. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with taking a calculated risk . . . provided however that all participants are acutely aware going in of the calculation.
All of that aside I'm sorry you lost the deal. Dry gas situations of all sorts and varieties are brutal right now, regardless venue. Here in NEPA where I am we are getting killed, since dry gas is all we have. It's marketplace mayhem for NG today. It's a disaster!
In some of my experiences....when a landowner doesn't receive what others do then some begin to claim wrongdoing or memory loss or some of the above mentioned words. They will say they were taken advantage of or worse (fraud). I'm not saying it doesn't happen but people have been leasing their oil and gas rights for years in PA and many know more then some of the landmen who call on them.
Treated miserably, wrong doing, taken advantage of,FRAUD! WOW (fraud lol) sorry guys none of this took place I was just whining and wanting to know about leasing.
nope never mentioned any company or name
you didnt mention the Company. mike knapp came forward. can you anwser any of the questions i asked. thanks

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
