For the past 2 or 3 weeks, I've had those little boxes (sensors, apparently) sitting on my property.  CCG Veritas just came through and picked them up.  How do these things work?  Originally, they said they'd drill holes in the ground and set off charges.  Is that old school?  Will I ever know the results of what's under me?

Chris,

Here's a link from CGG Veritas' site that explains the seismic survey process:

The receivers are now wireless (new school), pick up the vibrations and transmit the data.

The preferred energy source is the 2.2# dynamite charge placed in a shot hole.  Vibroseis trucks may be used as an energy source in more densely populated areas, or where the road coverage is good.

It is unlikely that the landowner will be provided with results, unless it was negotiated as part of the lease.

Seismic companies perform the survey and market the data to exploration companies.  Here is a link to CGG's Marcellus projects

Hope this helps!

I don't think Loyalsock Twp allows the Vibroseis trucks on the township roads (???) and I thought they would let me know if they were setting off charges.  Beats me.  I just wish I knew the timeline of development in my area (or had a crystal ball).  Lease renews in January and then runs 5 more years before expiring.  I think a lot of neighbors are signed but others are not, which may hamper development.
