Your family's property is in a good location. Nevertheless, I think leasing may have slowed down substantially. The most likely reason that leasing may have slowed is that the later we get in the year, the more likely it is that O&G companies have exhausted their leasing budgets. I would not be at all discouraged even though you may have to wait until 2014 to get  an acceptable offer. IMHO

taz;  first step is to talk to neighbors to see who is leased and with whom they are leased. If they signed recently, ask how much they leased for......but don't take it personally if they won't say how much.

Then contact the company(s) that have leased your neighbors as they will be the ones most likely to want your property.

Most likely, that will be Hilcorp or Chevron.  If Hilcorp, contact Western Land Services as they are the land management firm for Hilcorp.

And by all means, use a good attorney.

A lot depends on how large parcel you have and where they plan on drilling and how soon. Study as many sources as you can like this site and others. Talk to people that leased and learn from them.
